A challenger to the UFC strawweight championship emerged in the lone female fight at UFC 199 Saturday, as Jessica Andrade dominated and finished one-time title contender Jessica Penne.
The 24-year-old Andrade (14-5) earned her fifth victory inside the Octagon and her second finish. She went 4-3 as a bantamweight from 2013-15.
After besting Penne, who was fighting for the first time since losing a title fight last year, the Brazilian called out former champion Carla Esparza.
“Carla, you didn’t take the fight with me before because you said I couldn’t make the weight,” Andrade said. “The UFC is coming to Brazil in September, take the fight.”
It was all Andrade from the start, as her power came with her from 135 pounds. She repeatedly caught Penne, a former Invicta FC champion, against the fence and unloaded with shot after shot.
“I knew (Penne) was very dangerous, but I did my homework,” Andrade said. “I trained very hard and had the best camp of my entire life.
“I sprawled and punched in the face.”
