UFC 199: Beneil Dariush Shines Bright In L.A.

Beneil Dariush didn’t wait long to get the sour taste of defeat out of his mouth.

After suffering his first loss since 2014 in April, Dariush (13-2) stormed out after James Vick Saturday night at UFC 199 and picked up the first round finish.

The 27-year-old Dariush had won five straight before falling to Michael Chiesa via submission. Overall, he is 7-2 inside the Octagon, including four finishes.

“Six weeks ago I lost,” Dariush said. “I started praying and asked God to give me a chance. He gave me my redemption here.”

It was all Dariush, as Vick was also taking this fight after competing in April. He, though, had been unbeaten over nine pro fights. The Texan showed incredible heart, taking several power shots by Dariush before falling.

“I was shocked,” Dariush said. “I was getting tired. I had to give myself a second to breath and get back in there.

“I felt that he sometimes extends on his right hand,” he said. “(So the left) was something I wanted to take advantage of.”
