A liver kick delivered Jake Ellenberger the win that he so desperately was seeking.
Ellenberger dropped Matt Brown twice Saturday night at UFC 201, ending the contest with a flurry of strikes as Brown curled up to earn his 21st career finish.
Entering the fight just 1-5 over his last six, Ellenberger faced the prospects of being released. However, he talked UFC president Dana White into another shot and took advantage of it vs. Brown.
“Matt is a hell of a fighter,” Ellenberger said. “He is hard as hell to finish. I just have to stop being so nice.”
A former wrestler, Ellenberger admitted that he had been working on the liver kick at Kings MMA for “10 weeks now.”
“I just have to give so much thanks to the guys I have been training with,” he said.
Ellenberger now is tied for fifth in the UFC’s welterweight division with seven finishes.
