After returning to the UFC and scoring five straight wins, Thales Leites found himself backed into a corner at UFC Fight Night 92 Saturday night.
The former UFC title contender responded, snapping a two-fight losing skid with a third round submission win over Chris Camozzi.
Upon making his return to the Octagon in 2013, Leites (26-6) picked up wins over Tom Watson, Ed Herman, Trevor Smith, Francis Carmont and Tim Boetsch. That positioned him for a bout with current UFC champion Michael Bisping, which he lost via split decision in 2015.
Earlier this year, Leites was bested – again by decision – at the hands of Gegard Mousasi.
“I am very happy,” he said. “I needed this victory. This was a very special fight.”
With the finish, Leites now has seven stoppage wins in the UFC, placing him fourth on the all-time list behind Anderson Silva, Chris Leben and Nate Marquardt.
