UFC 202: Cody Garbrandt Shines In Front Of Cruz

ufc 202

Team Alpha Male has had trouble with Dominick Cruz in the past.

Cody Garbrandt wants to change all that.

Garbrandt improved to 10-0 Saturday night at UFC 202 with a first round finish of Takeya Mizugaki, with Cruz, the reigning UFC bantamweight champion, watching from his spot working with FOX Sports 1.

Garbrandt added to his finish of Thomas Almeida by storming out after Mizugaki. While many believed Mizugaki’s only chance was a flash knockout, “No Love” wasn’t worried, engaging in a back-and-forth battle that he won.

“I respect him as a veteran and I had to put him away early,” Garbrandt said. “I noticed I hurt him early on and there was an opening. I was a big favorite but (Mizugaki) had nothing to lose and I had to take him out.”

He now stands behind only Cruz in terms of bantamweight wins in a row, having picked up four to the five by Cruz.

“I knocked him out faster than you did,” Garbrandt told Cruz. “I will break your jaw.”
