It’s been an interesting journey for Shane Carwin.
Now, the 41-year-old former interim UFC heavyweight champion finds himself on the MMA open market as a free agent.

Carwin last competed in 2011, losing via decision to Junior dos Santos in a title-eliminator. That came after recovering from back surgery following a 2011 loss to Brock Lesnar for the unified UFC heavyweight title.
Carwin (12-2) was slated to meet Roy Nelson in 2012 after the two served as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter, but a knee injury sent the former NCAA Div. II national wrestling champion to the sidelines.
