UFC Fight Night 95: Recap From Brazil

ufc fight night 95

To the surprise of many, Lina Lansberg survived an entire round with Cris “Cyborg” Justino picking her apart at UFC Fight Night 95 Saturday night.

But once Cyborg, the reigning Invicta FC featherweight champion, brought the contest to the ground in the second, it was too much. The Brazilian recorded another stoppage win, battering on Lansberg and leaving the hometown crowd happy once more.

In the co-main event, former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao earned his first win at featherweight, scoring a decision over Phillipe Nover. Barao, who lost the title to T.J. Dillashaw, used his wrestling to earn the win over the former Ultimate Fighter runner-up.

Heavyweights Roy Nelson and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva engaged in a brawl, as “Big Country” delivered a second round knockout. Nelson, who planted Silva with a thunderous kick before unloading with several right hands, was upset with referee John McCarthy afterwards and expressed his frustration in the late stoppage.

For the seventh consecutive time, Francisco Trinaldo was declared the winner, as the veteran scored a third round TKO victory over Paul Felder. Trinaldo has not lost since 2014, earning a pair of finishes during his recent stretch.

The bout was stopped in the third by the doctor due to a nasty cut on the forehead of Felder. Trinaldo has the second-longest win streak in the lightweight division behind only Tony Ferguson with eight.

Eric Spicely locked in a rear-naked choke in a middleweight contest with Thiago Santos, earning a first round finish. The win was the first for “The Dream Catcher” in the UFC, as he dropped his debut to Sam Alvey earlier this year.

Godofredo Pepey continues to find success competing inside the Octagon in his home country of Brazil, as the former Ultimate Fighter runner-up scored his fourth consecutive finish there. He opened the FS1 main card with a first round submission of Mike De La Torre, improving to 4-1 in his last five.
