While rumors continue to float around concerning a super-fight between Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre, there is another fighter who wants to test his skills vs. “The Spider.”
Fresh off his deconstruction of Vitor Belfort at UFC 204, Gegard Mousasi called out Silva.
“I feel like I have the best standup in the middleweight division,” he said. “I’m No. 5. I’m going to come for one of those guys, one to four, and when I beat them, I’m going to get my title fight. If I can’t fight one of them, I’d prefer to fight Anderson Silva, but I’ll wait to fight one of the top four.”
Mousasi, a former Strikeforce champion, improved to 5-1 over his last six – that includes three consecutive wins and back-to-back finishes. He is now 40-6-2 overall in his MMA career.
And while he had nothing but trash-talk for Belfort in the lead-up to their bout, Mousasi was impressed with the former UFC champion afterwards.
“He’s tough,” he said. “I thought I’d be able to finish him. But I don’t take chances. The finish comes when it comes. He didn’t give up when I was on top of him. He took some punishment.”
