Two-time Olympic judo gold medalist Kayla Harrison is now officially part of the mixed martial arts world.
Harrison signed a contract with the World Series of Fighting, according to a report by MMAjunkie. She will be a commentator, brand ambassador and eventually a fighter for the promotion.
“I’ve been boxing and doing jiu-jitsu and all that, and the biggest thing for me, really, is that I miss competing,” Harrison said. “I miss fighting on the highest stages of the world, and the World Series of Fighting really gave me a great opportunity.”
Harrison will make her on-air debut at the year-ending WSOF 34 card from The Theater at Madison Square Garden. The main card that day features three title fights and airs live on NBC.
The 26-year-old Harrison captured her second Olympic gold in judo earlier this year. She said that at least a year of training will be needed before she makes her MMA debut.
