Brad Pickett was ahead convincingly against Marlon Vera going into the third round Saturday at UFC Fight Night 107.
But with it being his final fight, Pickett wasn’t about to lay-and-pray until the win.
While “One Punch” was finished by Vera, he told reporters afterwards that he wouldn’t have wanted the fight to have gone any other way.
“I go out on my shield,” he said. “I could have gotten a takedown and laid on top of him. But I live by the sword, die by the sword.”
The long-time British fighter decided after losing to Urijah Faber in Faber’s retirement bout that he would do the same when the Octagon returned to London. He was granted his wish, competing in front of a boisterous crowd inside The O2 Arena.
“It’s not the fairy tale ending we wanted,” Pickett added.
