Fedor Tops Lesnar & Mayweather On BusinessWeek’s Power 100 Athletes List

Fedor Emelianenko

Fedor Emelianenko got a little mainstream love this week. BusinessWeek ranked him No. 82 on their Power 100 2010 Athletes list ahead of fellow combat sports competitors Floyd Mayweather Jr. (No. 91), Shane Mosely (No. 93) and Brock Lesnar (No. 96),  though Manny Pacquiao edged him out at No. 72. It’s a little surprising considering Fedor probably doesn’t make close to what Mayweather and Lesnar make, or at least pull in as much revenue as they do, however their accomplishments were taken into consideration as well, and it’s difficult to top Fedor in that department.

No UFC 103 In HD For Some Cable Customers

Boxing takes HD slot

There’s been a lot of talk recently about UFC 103 going head-to-head with Mayweather vs. Marquez this Saturday. Quite frankly, I really didn’t give a damn about the boxing match until I saw somewhere that Comcast was showing Mayweather-Marquez on their sole HD pay-per-view channel. I have Cox Cable who also only has one HD pay-per-view slot in my area, so I checked my channel guide and sure enough, WTF, UFC 103 isn’t available in HD.

I could be wrong, but this looks like it’s more of an iN DEMAND issue than it is a cable company issue. On their site, it appears they have HD showings of UFC 103 available in some areas, but they look to be few and far between.

Anyone else having this problem?

Dana White Gives The Hard Sell For UFC 103 Over Mayweather-Marquez

If Dana White and the UFC aren’t worried about going head-to-head with the Mayweather-Marquez pay-per-view (even I know who Mayweather is fighting) on Sept. 19, then why did the UFC just release this video of Dana saying boxing sucks for giving you another shitty fight and the UFC rules for giving you five great ones?

July 11th Is A Popular Date For Combat Sports

Floyd MayweatherAlready set in stone for July 11th is UFC 100, which will most certainly be billed as the biggest mixed martial arts show in history. Not one to be left out of the fun, Affliction Entertainment has hinted that they might be interested in holding their third show the very same night, something that many fans of the sport will not look too kindly upon.

Let’s be honest though, Dana White and the UFC will laugh this off as a terrible business decision and then pick up any of Affliction’s free agents that they deem worth to compete in the Octagon. Apparently, not even Tom Atencio thinks they will be holding a fourth event if they move ahead with this idea.

However, one thing that consistently draws the attention of combat sports fans is a boxing match featuring one of the sports biggest names. It appears that one of boxing’s biggest stars might have the date of July 11th circled on his calendar, marking his return to the sport. ESPN.com speculates that Floyd Mayweather Jr. might be ready for a tune up fight in early summer before taking on another big money match-up down the road.

RUMOR: Floyd Mayweather Signed With The UFC??? (Update)

Floyd MayweatherTake this with a grain of salt, but according to Wrestling Edge, top pound-for-pound boxer “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather has signed a deal with the UFC. I do not follow pro wrestling so I don’t know if this site is credible or not, but I thought it was a fun rumor to pass along if nothing else on a slow Saturday night.
