Javier Mendez: Herschel Walker Is The Best Athlete To Come Through AKA

Javier Mendez tells Ariel Helwani that Herschel Walker is the best athlete to ever walk through the doors at AKA. That’s a pretty high compliment considering guys like Cain Velasquez and Josh Koscheck train at AKA. Mendez does however say just because Walker is a tremendous athlete doesn’t mean he’s a high level mixed martial artist. He’s still green and has a lot to learn.

Herschel Walker is set to make his MMA debut three-and-a-half weeks from now on Jan. 30 at Strikeforce “Miami.” His opponent hasn’t been announced yet, but he’s been putting his time in at AKA to prepare for whoever they throw at him. His gameplan is simple. Be on offense, just like he was back in his days as a running back.

 

UFC Continues To Trim Roster Of Fighters

Matt ArroyoDue to the recent merger of the WEC’s welterweight, middleweight and light heavyweight division’s into the UFC by Zuffa, many fighters heading into last weekend’s UFC Fight Night must have known they could be fighting for their UFC careers. Over 50 contracted fighters were merged into the UFC. Joe Silva, resident UFC matchmaker, was forced to make some tough decisions as to who they should release so the company could get back down to 150 contracted fighters, where Silva has stated they prefer to be.

 

It’s Over, Jon Fitch Back In The UFC

It appears one result of those talks is that Jon Fitch is back with the UFC. According to MMA Rated, Fitch patched things up with Lorenzo Fertitta, not Dana White. Oh, and now Fitch says it was never even about the agreement, it was about Dana White’s approach.
