WEC 37 ‘Torres vs Tapia’ Fighter Payouts

MoneyThe NSAC has released the fighter payouts for WEC 37 “Torres vs Tapia.” Keep in mind, these figures represent the base contracted pay the fighter receives from the promotion. These figures do not include any additional “locker room” bonuses or sponsorship money, which in many cases exceeds a fighter’s base pay. These numbers also do not account for taxes, insurance, and license fees.

Dana White Names Anderson Silva’s Successor As The Pound-For-Pound King

Lyoto MachidaThe number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world argument usually comes down to two names—Anderson Silva and Fedor Emelianenko. But if you ask Dana White, it’s a joke for Fedor to even be considered. Anderson Silva is his pound-for-pound king and there’s plenty of Zuffa contracted fighters in line right behind him according to him, and except for the Fedor part, he’s right.

Chuck Liddell: ‘No One’s Said Anything To Me About Randy Or Anderson’

According to Chuck Liddell, all the rumors flying around about him fighting Randy Couture and Anderson Silva have been just rumors. He claims no one’s said anything to him. It almost seems like the UFC floated those rumors to gauge interest in them.

Also, he doesn’t want to wait till June to fight again, so maybe we’ll see the Iceman return to the Octagon sooner rather than later. Chuck also talks about getting “caught” against Rashad and what it will take for him to hang it up.

Miguel Torres Talks Win Over Manny Tapia At WEC 37

Can anyone beat this kid? It doesn’t seem like it, but we said the same thing about Urijah Faber, so who knows. Anyways, Sherdog also has an interview up with Manny Tapia where he says the fight was stopped prematurely. If that was the case, then he should be thanking the ref. Nothing good was going to happen to Manny Tapia from that point on if the ref let it go.

CSAC Threatens To Revoke Antonio Silva’s License If He Fights In Japan

Antonio SilvaIt looks like Antonio Silva may want to reconsider his decision to fight in Japan for Sengoku on Jan. 4. Apparently, the CSAC is less than thrilled about Silva’s intention to violate his steroid suspension, and plans to do something about it if he does. And I’m not talking about a slap on the wrist either.

How does a license revocation sound? Yeah, not too good, but according to new CSAC Assistant Executive Officer Bill Douglas that’s exactly what Silva could be looking at if he fights overseas.

Gilbert Yvel Announced As Josh Barnett’s Affliction Opponent

Josh Barnett
More Affliction Banned photos at CombatLifestyle.com

Josh Barnett has an opponent now for the upcoming Affliction card, but it isn’t Brett Rogers or Aleksander Emelianenko as previously rumored. It’s Gilbert Yvel, someone who probably has an even smaller chance of getting licensed in California than Aleks does. In terms of “meaningful fights,” this one isn’t, so I’m not going to lie and say I’m not disappointed in the match-up. Either of the rumored opponents would have much better in my opinion, but I suppose they just didn’t work out for whatever reason. If you really hate this fight, check out Zach Arnold’s thoughts on it. He hates it too.

The press release also mentions that one of the Discovery Channel’s “Fight Quest’ co-hosts, Jimmy Smith, will be calling the action. Apparently, he and this other guy, Sean Wheelock have been the broadcast team for the M-1 Challenge, thus how they got the job. I’ve watched a little bit of the M-1 Challenge, but admittedly haven’t paid any attention whatsoever to the announcing, so I couldn’t tell you one way or the other if this is a good thing, although they couldn’t be any worse than Glazer and Trigg. Five Oz. has more on them if you’re interested.

Anyways, here’s the press release.

M-1 Global is pleased to announce that Gilbert Yvel, one of its top heavyweight competitors, has agreed to terms on a three-fight contract with Affliction Entertainment.

XP3 Trying To Take Tim Sylvia vs Ken Shamrock To Pay-Per-View…Seriously

XP3

This is funny. Remember that promotion you’ve never heard of, XP3, that was trying to put together that ridiculous Tim Sylvia vs. Ken Shamrock fight? The one that was at least assumed to be held on a local/regional level? You couldn’t have forgotten, the news only broke 24 hours ago. Well, maybe you did, but anyways, apparently negotiations are still taking place to book the match, but here’s the kicker. They’re trying to put it on pay-per-view!
