Ricardo Lamas To Face ‘The Korean Zombie’ At UFC 162

A much-anticipated featherweight showdown is scheduled for UFC 162 this summer, as Ricardo Lamas will face Chan Sung Jung – better known as “The Korean Zombie.”

The fight will be part of the July 6 event from Las Vegas, which also boasts a UFC middleweight title match between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman.

Lamas (9-2) has gone a perfect 4-0 since moving to the UFC and 145 pounds, defeating Erik Koch, Hatsu Hioki, Cub Swanson and Matt Grice.

Jung (13-3) was forced to the sidelines last year after a win over Dustin Poirier with rotator cuff surgery. He is 3-0 since joining the Octagon, having also defeated Mark Hominick and Leonard Garcia.

This is a fight that could set a high bar, much like the Jung-Poirier fight did. Both of these two men want a title shot, and will likely leave it all inside the cage to secure the win.

Dustin Poirier Offers Up His Selection For Upcoming Jose Aldo-Erik Koch Match

Dustin Poirier decided to conduct a little impromptu Q&A session on Twitter recently.

Poirier, who is coming off a loss to Chan Sung Jung that knocked him from the ranks of potential contenders to UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, was asked to make a pick in the upcoming Aldo-Erik Koch match set for UFC 153.

Poirier is 12-2 in his career, including wins in five of his last six.

“The Korean Zombie” Elects For Shoulder Surgery, Not Competing In China Later This Year

Chan Sung Jung, also known as “The Korean Zombie,” will undergo shoulder surgery, knocking him out for several months and off plans to feature him at the UFC’s debut in China.

MMA Fighting reported that Jung has elected to have the surgery, which doctor’s advised him to have before facing Dustin Poirier. Jung won that match, his third straight in the UFC, and positioned himself as a likely contender to UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.

The report added that UFC officials had approached Jung about competing in Macau, China on November 10, but the fighter decided to have surgery now instead of pushing it off again.

Over the past few weeks, Jung has tried to make his case for facing Aldo. Currently, Aldo is locked in a match with Erik Koch. That bout was expected to go down next weekend, but Aldo pulled out. Now, rumors have it being the main event of UFC 153 from Brazil later this year.

Chan Sung Jung Ready, Willing To Face Jose Aldo

Jose Aldo has a fighter that wants nothing more than to face him inside the Octagon for his UFC featherweight title.

That fighter is Chan Sung Jung, better known as “The Korean Zombie.”

Jung, who toppled Dustin Poirier earlier this year in a thrilling main event fight, made his intentions known on Twitter recently about wanting to face Aldo.

Aldo is still expected to meet Erik Koch, likely later this year from Brazil. “Scarface” was forced to postpone the fight due to a training injury. Koch decided to wait for his title opportunity instead of taking another fight.

Moving Forward After UFC on FUEL 3

I’m a little late to the party, but I finally made it. After a solid outing on FUEL TV, it’s time to take a look at what could be next for the big winners from UFC on FUEL TV 3.

-Chan Sung Jung blew my mind. I didn’t give “The Korean Zombie” even the slightest chance against Dustin Poirier, and not only did he win, he made “Diamond” look bad. While his skillset is improving, and he truly is a zombie in the cage, a much more grim fate awaits him, as he takes on the winner of Koch/Aldo, aka Jose Aldo.

-Dustin Poirier got his ass kicked, there’s not much else I can say about that. However, a fighter only gets better after suffering a loss like this at such a young age, and I have no doubt that he’ll be back better than ever. I recommend he takes some time off to clear his head, work on his skills, and return when he is ready. Potential opponents include Hatsu Hioki and Ricardo Lamas.

-Amir Sadollah underwhelmed in his bout against Jorge Lopez, but it’s hard to fault him when you look at how his opponent fought. Only nine bouts into his professional career, he’s always learning and improving. Amir should face a slightly stiffer test in his next bout, and I think the winner of Josh Neer vs. Mike Pile would fit that bill.

-While many have called for Cerrone vs Pettis, it appears as if that is not a bout we’ll be seeing any time soon. Cerrone looked much like his old self in that cage, as he absolutely demolished Jeremy Stephens. He needs to face a tough wrestler in his next bout, in my opinion. Give him the winner of Clay Guida vs. Gray Maynard.

-With Renan Barao seeming like the next opponent for Urijah Faber, Ivan Menjivar is left without a fight, and it could very well be time for Yves Jabouin to take that leap into the upper echelon of the division. Menjivar vs. Jabouin would be fun as hell.

-While it was a contoversial decision, Igor Pokrajac took home the W on Tuesday night. With his iron chin and heavy hands, I could easily see the scrappy 205er take on another scrapper in Stanislov Nedkov.

-Tom Lawlor had a happy birthday indeed. After making quick work of Jason MacDonald, and likely following up by getting completely wasted, as is his style, it’s time “Filthy” starts to build his way back up the division ladder. Two suitable opponents are Rony Markes and preliminary card winner Brad Tavares.

Some other notes from the card:

-Cody McKenzie is awesome, but he seriously needs to work on his striking and wrestling.

-T.J. Grant needs a top 15 opponent in the lightweight division. He made Prater look silly, and I feel as if he could continue to do so to others.

-Kamal Shalolorus.

What are your thoughts on the card? Leave your feedback in the comments below.
