Josh Barnett Missed Steroid Appeal To Wrestle Bob Sapp

Josh Barnett wrestling Bob Sapp

Josh Barnett’s steroid appeal was pushed back for the fourth consecutive time yesterday when he failed to show up for a hearing with the CSAC. His attorney, who was present, was “shocked” when the commission said they couldn’t proceed without him.

“We’ve been diligently preparing to present Mr. Barnett’s case and his defense, and he was unable to be here today and we are extremely shocked and disappointed that the commission ruled that they would not go forward with the hearing without Mr. Barnett being present,” said Michael J. DiMaggio, an attorney representing Barnett. “It’s particularly surprising in light of the fact that we’re not aware of any rule or regulation that insists that he be here. Obviously, even criminal cases go forward without the accused present in some instances.”

What DiMaggio apparently didn’t know was the CSAC made it perfectly clear ahead of time that Barnett’s attendance was required.

Again Dodd countered by stating the original letter sent to Barnett outlined the manner in which he would have to proceed to regain his license to fight.

“The letter is very clear that you must appear before the commission,” Dodd said. “It doesn’t say anything else besides appear. You can bring counsel, but it says the word ‘appear’ in there.”

So where was Josh Barnett in all of this? Oh, he was in Japan wrestling Bob Sapp. And he wonders why the mega-contract offers aren’t rolling in.

His appeal has been rescheduled for April 20.

DREAM.11 Post-Fight Interviews & Notes: Aoki-Kawajiri For LW Title NYE

DREAM has really stepped it up with their YouTube channel lately posting pre-fight interviews, promos, video of the weigh-ins, etc. All the post-fight interviews for DREAM.11 are now posted as well. I’ve included all the ones with English speaking participants here, but YouTube also has a really cool subtitle feature you can use for the Japanese interviews.

MDS has a detailed recap of presser over at Fanhouse. Here’s the short version.

  • Bibiano Fernandes’ first featherweight title defense will come against Hiroyuki Takaya, the fighter he narrowly beat at DREAM.11 to win it.
  • Shinya Aoki will defend his lightweight title against Tatsuya Kawajiri at Dynamite on NYE.
  • DREAM wants Sakuraba to fight at DREAM.12. Can’t he just go out with a win?
  • Boxer Ruben Williams had no idea getting kicked in the leg would actually hurt.
  • DREAM expects good ratings thanks to the Super Hulk Tournament. Minowaman’s win over HMC got the biggest reaction from the live audience that I heard, though I had to watch it in pieces on the internet.
  • Joe Warren is upset the ref stopped his fight because he didn’t tap out. He has a case.
  • Bob Sapp is upset the ref stopped his fight while he was being pelted in the face and did nothing but cover up. He doesn’t have a case.

DREAM.11 Pre-Fight Interview: Bob Sapp

Bob Sapp is a busy man. After taking on Sokoudjou at DREAM.11, he fights the very next day in a kickboxing match in Hong Kong. He says his schedule for the next five months is just as hectic.

DREAM Super Hulk Training Videos: Sapp & Minowaman

So at least two of the remaining competitors in DREAM’s Super Hulk Tournament are training for it. That shouldn’t come as a surprise to me, but in an weird way it kinda does. I guess I could just never picture it in my head without seeing it for my own eyes first.

Anyways, CagePotato found this video of Bob Sapp training for his fight against Sokoudjou next week. He actually does look like a beast when he’s throwing leg kicks against a stationary target, well at least through about 10 of them at which point he looks like he’s going to collapse from exhaustion.

My favorite of the two is Minowaman’s though. There’s something not right when you have to hit the pads at a 75° angle above your head. The best part comes at the end when Minowaman poses for media pictures with a life-size cardboard cutout of his opponent, Hong Man Choi. Only in Japan.

Bob Sapp Finds His Way Back Into DREAM’s Super Hulk Tournament

Bob Sapp

DREAM has found their replacement for Gegard Mousasi. It’s Bob Sapp who lost to Minowaman in the first round of the Super Hulk tournament. Hong Man Choi and Minowaman will still square off in the semi-finals at DREAM.11, so Sapp will face Sokoudjou.

“Sokoudjou’s a great fighter. Without question, he’s ready to go. He’s kind of on his winning (ways), while I’m on the opposite end, on a losing streak. So I definitely would like to push forward and rebound back.”

If victorious, Sapp will face the winner of Minowa vs. Choi at Dynamite! on New Year’s Eve. If not, he hints at another option.

“If Sokoudjou wins… I’ll probably be fighting a celebrity (at Dynamite),” he said.

Well, Sokoudjou is going to win, let’s be serious here, but with Mousasi out of the tournament, Minowaman has a decent chance to take the whole damn thing. Go figure.

Ultimate Chaos Results, Psuedo-Recap & Pics

Ultimate Chaos went down earlier this evening in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Sorry, but I missed the fights (saw Transformers 2, which was freakin’ awesome, hilarious, and had Megan Fox <– good god, knuckle-biting hot), so I can’t really tell you a whole lot about what happened. But from the recaps I’ve read, Bobby Lashley immediately took Bob Sapp down and pounded on him until he tapped (no word if he cried), the ref in the Yvel-Rizzo fight stood there and watched Yvel pound Rizzo into unconsciousness (read: criminally late stoppage), Chris Horodecki easily choked out his opponent, and Tom Atencio (!) weathered a beating in the first round to give Randy Hedderick one so bad in the second he refused to answer the bell in the third.

Steve Cofield has a lot more over at Cagewriter.com.

Bob Sapp On Sushi Diet After Cracking Toilet

So, Bob Sapp got so big—nearly 400lbs—he cracked a freakin’ toilet. Steve Cofield tells us this is actually a fairly common occurrence in radio, which is just sad. I don’t know about the “gluttonous” radio hosts Cofield refers to, but Sapp decided enough was enough and went on a sushi and ramen noodle diet. He’s hoping to be about at his pro football weight of 320 come fight time this weekend against Bobby Lashley at Ultimate Chaos. Either way, I’m still taking Lashley.
