Due to the recent merger of the WEC’s welterweight, middleweight and light heavyweight division’s into the UFC by Zuffa, many fighters heading into last weekend’s UFC Fight Night must have known they could be fighting for their UFC careers. Over 50 contracted fighters were merged into the UFC. Joe Silva, resident UFC matchmaker, was forced to make some tough decisions as to who they should release so the company could get back down to 150 contracted fighters, where Silva has stated they prefer to be.

In a previous post, we passed along a report from Sherdog.com that AKA and the UFC had reopened discussions regarding the huge fallout which was first reported last night. It appears one result of those talks is that Jon Fitch is back with the UFC. According to MMA Rated, Fitch patched things up with Lorenzo Fertitta, not Dana White. Oh, and now Fitch says it was never even about the agreement, it was about Dana White’s approach.

Over twelve hours ago, the unfortunate news that Jon Fitch and Christian Wellisch had been cut by the UFC broke and spread like wildfire across the internet. Since then, a lot more information has come out regarding the situation. Dana White and Jon Fitch have both given multiple interviews, and it appears we have at least partial answers to what happened, why it happened, and who else might be affected.

Nothing fires me up more than when the UFC uses their leverage over fighters in unethical ways. What did they do now? They cut several fighters, including top five welterweight Jon Fitch, for not signing away their LIFETIME video game rights to their name and likeness.
