Kimbo Headed To Japan To Fight For K-1?

Kimbo SliceSince I know you’re all dying to know what’s going to happen with Kimbo Slice, I thought I would pass along this update from Zach Arnold over at Fight Opinion on everyone’s favorite bearded fighter’s future. Most speculation and common sense has pointed him in the direction of the land of the rising sun, and if this report is accurate, that looks exactly like where he is headed.

Omasuki Fight has a note from a Tokyo Sports mobile news update, which claims that Kimbo Slice could appear at K-1’s 12/6 Yokohama Arena event to announce his future participation for the organization (starting in March of 2009). The name of Slice’s first opponent being floated? Badr Hari.

Kimbo fighting under K-1 rules really isn’t that bad of an idea. He doesn’t have to worry about be taken down, etc. However, matching up with Badr Hari in his first fight? That’s brutal. Hope he at least gets his paycheck on time for the sacrifice.

Kimbo Slice On The Dan Le Batard Radio Show; Antonio Silva To Sengoku?

Kimbo Slice On The Dan Le Batard Show

Kimbo Slice was a guest today on The Dan Le Batard Show on 790 The Ticket in his first interview since his loss to Seth Petruzelli on CBS. Obviously, quite a bit has happened since then, so it’s interesting to see what Kimbo’s up to and what his take is on the whole situation. Bloody Elbow reader Discman 2 did a great recap of the interview if you don’t have time to listen. I will throw this quote out there though.

EliteXC Fighter Watch: Alvarez, Daley, Noons, Diaz & More

Where are they going? A week removed from EliteXC’s fall, not one EliteXC fighter is free and clear yet to sign a new deal elsewhere. That doesn’t mean the wheels aren’t turning though. Here’s the latest on a few of the fighters EliteXC left behind.

Eddie Alvarez

Eddie AlvarezOf all the fighters signed to EliteXC contracts, Eddie Alvarez seems to have the most options while his Elite contract is stuck in bankruptcy proceedings. According to his manager, Monte Cox, Eddie has two fights remaining on his DREAM contract, and deals with Andrenaline and Extreme Challenge.

In response to Seth Petruzelli’s comments on the “The Monsters in Orlando” show on 104.1 FM in Orlando the Monday following his bout with Kimbo Slice, former EliteXC Head of Fight Operations Jeremy Lappen claimed that Petruzelli was referring to a knockout bonus, not a bribe to keep the fight standing as widely suspected.

Dana White Invites Kimbo Slice To Be On TUF (Update)

It’s a win-win situation for the UFC. They want Kimbo’s star power (what’s left of it at least) but can’t justify signing him to a regular contract. So they put him on TUF and draw big ratings. If he loses, they can put any interest left in him to bed. If he does well, or even wins, a huge stretch, I know, they can sign him cheap relative to his drawing power and justify putting him on a pay-per-view.

Those Affected By EliteXC’s Demise; Nov. 8 Show Officially Canceled

With EliteXC all but officially dead, much of the talk around the MMA community has centered on where EliteXC’s fighters will go. Unfortunately, for the fighters and their fans, many of them likely won’t simply be able to enter free agency.

Mike Chiappetta of NBCSports.com explains.

But now, a good number of those fighters are left in legal limbo. Many had complex contracts that will be seen as assets in any bankruptcy proceedings, meaning they may be on the shelf indefinitely while the company’s assets are divided.

While it’s not known who will be at the mercy of the US legal system at the present time, a few fighters are already speaking up about the situations they’ve all of a sudden found themselves in.

Bas Rutten Talks Kimbo’s Loss And Ken Shamrock

I know we’re all a little tired about talking about what went down at EliteXC “Heat” but I’ve always enjoyed Bas Rutten’s perspective on things, so I thought I’d share this interview he did with Steve Cofield.

One of the rumors floating around about Ken Shamrock was that he was holding out for more money on game day. Bas addressed Shamrock in the interview, and while he doesn’t confirm any rumors, he does allude to something going on with Ken which led to the infamous eye cutting workout.
