With all the negative press Affliction is receiving these days thanks to their president, Todd Beard, we were starting to wonder what, if anything, is going on with their big pay-per-event that is supposedly scheduled for Jan. 24. Well, at least according to the subdued member of Affliction’s management team, Tom Atencio, an announcement is supposed to be made on Monday.

M-1 Global and Affliction keep strengthening the ties in MMA. Officially from now on all the M-1 Challenge events will be organized in association with Affliction.
This sounds like a sponsorship more than anything else. Considering the M-1 Challenge takes place in various locations around the world, Affliction likely sees this as a way to break their clothing line into the international marketplace.
If Affliction Entertainment proves everyone wrong and becomes a long-term player, the M-1 Challenge could become a good feeder league for Affliction as well. It’s been said to have some very talented up-and-coming fighters competing in it. I’m not Jordan Breen so I’m really not familiar with too many of them but there’s a lot of buzz surrounding Fedor’s pupil, Kiril Sidelnikov, who I mentioned the other day. I posted a video of him trading bombs with Martin Szoltysik after the jump. It’s an entertaining fight with a great finish. Watch it.
Here’s a recap of the first episode of M-1 Global’s M-1 Challenge that aired on HDNet last Friday night. One fighter you should pay attention to is Kiril Sidelnikov. He’s a 19 year old member of Russia’s Red Devil Team, and trains under Fedor Emelianenko, which has led to his nickname, “Baby Fedor.” The kid’s really good, and will likely be someone we’ll hear a lot more about in the future.
