Cheick Kongo and Paul Buentello face off in a heavyweight battle on Sunday, March 21, at UFC on Versus 1.
UFC on Versus 1: Cheick Kongo vs. Paul Buentello, Clay Guida vs. Shannon Gugerty

The UFC’s first event on Versus has developed into quite the card for free television. Brandon Vera vs. Jon Jones and Junior dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga have already been announced as co-headliners, and today the UFC added a heavyweight match-up between strikers Cheick Kongo and Paul Buentello. There will be a lot of leather thrown in that one.
Also, Sean Sherk was expected to meet Clay Guida on the card, but he suffered an undisclosed injury and has since been replaced by Shannon Gugerty.

Todd Duffee Injured, Withdraws From UFC 107

Here’s one more name the UFC can add to its too-sick-or-injured-to-fight list if they can ever find the end of it.
Sherdog is reporting that Todd Duffee has withdrawn from his fight against Paul Buentello at UFC 107 due to an undisclosed injury.
“(Withdrawing) was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make,” said Duffee, who would not disclose the nature of his injury.
Buentello was naturally disappointed by the news (does Paul ever get good news?), but says Stefan Struve and Mike Russow have already been floated as potential replacements, so at least he’ll still get to fight.

Strikeforce And Paul Buentello Part Ways With Verbal Jabs (Update)
Remember last month when Scott Coker threw this subtle jab at Phil Baroni in the press release announcing his departure from the organization?
Who’s Paul Buentello Fighting For?
There’s been a bit of confusion about where Paul Buentello ended up following Affliction’s demise. Reports had him in both the UFC and Strikeforce. So which one is it? The answer is neither. It sounds like he’s leaning towards Strikeforce at the moment. He’d like a rematch with Alistair Overeem, and wouldn’t mind fighting Fedor, but he wants a big payday for that fight. Bottom line is it’s up in the air at the moment, but we should know within the next few weeks.
