Since we’ve been out of action for a day and a half, there’s quite a few stories that we missed. It doesn’t look like anything major broke, so I’m just gonna do a run down of what we missed so we can get back on track.

EliteXC “Heat” Fighter Payouts
The FSBC has released the fighter payouts for EliteXC “Heat” to Sherdog.com. Keep in mind, these figures represent the base contracted pay the fighter receives from the promotion. These figures do not include any additional bonuses or sponsorship money, which in many cases exceeds a fighter’s base pay. These numbers also do not account for taxes, insurance, and license fees.

Damage Control II
$kala’s at it again in this video of the EliteXC “Heat” post-fight press conference. He calls Seth Petruzelli the “modern day Rocky Balboa.” Seth deserves all the credit he gets for stepping up last minute and beating Kimbo on the national stage, but $kala, like always, is way too over the top. A promoter’s job is to manipulate perception and turn it into reality, but you have to at least not come across as completely full of shit in the process.

How Josh Barnett Missed Out On CBS; Affliction Needs A Full-Time Front Man
Remember the whole discrepancy between Affliction and Josh Barnett that prevented Barnett from fighting Andrei Arlovski on EliteXC’s CBS card? You know, the one where Tom Atencio said they couldn’t finalize a deal with him, leading many to believe he refused to take a pay cut, and Barnett said he was never even offered the fight. Yeah, strange, huh? Well, in Ben Fowlkes latest SI.com article, it looks like Atencio has rephrased what happened to something just a tad bit different.

EliteXC-Affliction-Golden Boy Co-Promoted Event To Air On Showtime Or CBS In January? (Update II)

If you thought today’s announcement that Affliction fighters Andrei Arlovski and Roy Nelson have been added to EliteXC “Heat” was pretty crazy, wait till you hear this. Sergio Non of USA Today spoke with Affliction Entertainment COO Michael Cohen about the EliteXC co-promotion earlier today, and what he said could potentially be huge.
Elite XC and Affliction will also co-promote Affliction’s next event with Golden Boy Promotions, now scheduled for Jan. 24, Cohen said. That fight will air either on CBS or Showtime, he said.
EliteXC & Affliction Team Up To Add Andrei Arlovski vs. Roy Nelson To Oct. 4 CBS Event
It looks like EliteXC “Heat” just got a little hotter. According to a report on Sherdog.com, EliteXC and Affliction will co-promote a fight between Andrei Arlovski and Roy Nelson on EliteXC’s third CBS event.
Former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski (13-5) and IFL kingpin Roy Nelson (13-2) have been offered a heavyweight bout at EliteXC “Heat” Oct. 4 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. The event will be aired live on CBS.

IFL Champs Roy Nelson & Vladimir Matyushenko Headed To Affliction?
Ever since rumors surfaced that Zuffa would be purchasing the IFL, we’ve seen quite a few IFL fighters sign with the UFC and WEC. What we haven’t seen is any of the IFL’s champions sign to fight in the Octagon. Well, either Zuffa didn’t want them, or they were too hard to nail down, because two of them look like they’re headed to Affliction. According to two separate reports, it’s believed that IFL Heavyweight Champ Roy Nelson and IFL Light Heavyweight Champ Vladimir Matyushenko will be climbing in Affliction’s ring on October 11.
IFL Heavyweight Champ May Get Next Crack At Kimbo
FiveOuncesOfPain.com is reporting that IFL Heavyweight Champion, Roy Nelson, may be next in line to face Kimbo Slice, providing Kimbo Slice is able to get past James Thompson tomorrow night. It appears IFL CEO Jay Larkin has confirmed that “casual talks” have already taken place between EliteXC and the IFL.
According to Larkin, formal talks about a Nelson vs. Slice fight have yet to take place but discussions could intensify Monday morning, depending on the outcome of Slice’s heavyweight bout during EliteXC’s debut on CBS this Saturday night.
“If Kimbo wins, we’ll make that match (Nelson vs. Slice) without hesitation,” Larkin said during an exclusive interview with Five Ounces of Pain. “We’ll do in on an IFL card or an Elite card — we don’t care. Promotions working together is the only way for this business to grow.”
Nelson would certainly serve as a step up in competition for Kimbo Slice. While he isn’t a top ten heavyweight, few would argue that Nelson is a “can.” Roy is a big round heavyweight, yet surprisingly moves well for his size. He has decent hands with power behind them. His wrestling and ground-and-pound are also good.
This matchup would be an appropriate test for Kimbo at this point in his career, assuming James Thompson doesn’t shock everyone tomorrow.
Its a fight I would definitely find interesting, and one that should silence the Kimbo detractors who say he will just be fed cans for the rest of his career.
