James Irvin & Justin Levens Test Positive For Painkillers

James IrvinIt appears July 19 didn’t come without a few drug testing casualties. James Irvin, who fought in the main event at Ultimate Fight Night 14, and Justin Levens, who was supposed to fight at Affliction “Banned” but didn’t because of time constraints, both tested positive for the painkiller oxymorphone. Irvin also tested positive for methadone, which is said to be the drug given to recovering heroin addicts, although it apparently can be used as a painkiller as well.

Ultimate Fight Night 14 Main Event Preview: Silva vs Irvin

Anderson Silva

I want to…help the UFC stay and maintain the status that they are—the number one MMA organization in the world.

It’s a noble gesture, but does Anderson not realize that the UFC having legitimate competition is only going to benefit him in the long-run?

James Irvin after the jump.

James Irvin Has No Game Plan, Just Coming To Fight

James IrvinIn just one short week, James Irvin will face the biggest challenge of his MMA career when he takes on what many consider to be the most devastating striker in mixed martial arts today, Anderson Silva. Silva has largely used his Muay Thai kickboxing background to devastate his opponents since entering the Octagon. But unlike Silva’s previous UFC opposition, Irvin will bring a strong Muay Thai pedigree into the Octagon on July 19 as well. The question is, how will Irvin’s skills stack up against the Brazilian’s at the higher weight?

Irvin Breaks Foot, UFC 85 Bout With Evans Scrapped

Rashad EvansOh my! It happened again. UFC 85 undergoes its 2 millionth change. UFC.com is reporting that James Irvin has suffered a broken foot, which has forced him out of the UFC 85 bout with Rashad Evans. Earlier reports suggested Luiz Cane would step in to replace Irvin, but it appears the bout is going to be scrapped altogether.

After more twists and turns than a Hollywood thriller, June 7th’s UFC 85: Bedlam show has finally been set with 11 fights. Included is a move of the intriguing middleweight clash between Nate Marquardt and Thales Leites to the pay-per-view portion of the card, and a scrapping of the Rashad Evans vs James Irvin bout due to a broken foot suffered by Irvin.

Evans, who was originally scheduled to take on Chuck Liddell on the card before ‘The Iceman’ tore a hamstring in his right leg, will not be fighting on June 7th.

You have to feel bad for Rashad. Originally, he’s not even supposed to be on the card. Then he gets the call to face a UFC icon in the main event, which I’m sure was an emotional high for him. Then the air in his balloon deflates a little when Chuck withdraws with his torn hammy, and is bumped down the card. Now, he’s completely off the card again. Talk about an emotional roller-coaster. Hopefully, the UFC can squeeze him on UFC 86, or book him for UFC 87, so he at least can put all his hard training to use this summer.

UFC 85 truly is ‘Bedlam.’
