UFC on Versus 1: Cheick Kongo vs. Paul Buentello, Clay Guida vs. Shannon Gugerty

Cheick Kongo

The UFC’s first event on Versus has developed into quite the card for free television. Brandon Vera vs. Jon Jones and Junior dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga have already been announced as co-headliners, and today the UFC added a heavyweight match-up between strikers Cheick Kongo and Paul Buentello. There will be a lot of leather thrown in that one.

Also, Sean Sherk was expected to meet Clay Guida on the card, but he suffered an undisclosed injury and has since been replaced by Shannon Gugerty.

Sean Sherk Off UFC 108, Replaced By Duane Ludwig

Sean Sherk

It’s still not over. Sean Sherk is UFC 108’s latest casualty. The good news is the UFC already found a replacement.

The seemingly cursed UFC 108 card took yet another hit on Wednesday as former lightweight champion, Sean Sherk, was forced off the show with a laceration requiring stitches over his eye. Stepping in to replace him will be Duane “Bang” Ludwig who will return to the UFC for the first time since 2006 to take on Jim Miller in a 155lb contest.

The news of Sherk’s replacement was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Wednesday evening.

Sources indicated to MMAWeekly.com that Sherk was forced off the card due to an inch long cut suffered over his right eye in training that required several stitches that would not come out until at least the middle of next week.

And to think, there’s still two weeks left till the event. Could there possibly be more?

Sean Sherk Proves He’s Really Injured

Sean Sherk raised quite a few eyebrows when he withdrew from UFC 104 with a reported shoulder injury at roughly the same time he was scheduled to take a pre-fight drug test in California, the state he previously claimed he would never fight in again. No conspiracy here though, and Sherk has made it a point to make sure everyone knows it. He’s passed along his medical documents to Sherdog to prove he’s really injured.

The injury is painfully real, according to medical documents received by Sherdog.com.

Sherk suffered a “Grade II AC separation” in his right shoulder, according to an MRI report prepared by the Center for Diagnostic Imaging in St. Louis Park, Minn.

“I’m not dodging a drug test,” Sherk told Sherdog.com Monday. “I just took a drug test three months ago. I know I’m going to get drug tested. I’ve been drug tested probably more than any other fighter in the world.”

I have no idea what exactly we’re looking at, but video of his MRI can be seen above.

UFC 98 Pre-Fight Interviews: Evans, Machida, Hughes, Sherk, Edgar

Cagewriter’s Steve Cofield has been making the interview rounds for UFC 98. In the videos above and below, he talks to Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida, Matt Hughes, Sean Sherk and Frankie Edgar. Apparently, what Rashad’s really worried about is Machida’s urine breath, urine can taste either sweet or sour depending on what you eat (according to Machida), Hughes is trying to keep his emotions in check, and Sherk isn’t too happy that guys like Aoki and Florian are ranked above him.

Seems like before every one of Sean Sherk’s fights the API training center releases one of these videos to remind us how hardcore their strength and conditioning program is. And yes, it’s still insane.
