Affliction VP, Tom Atencio, appears in tonight’s edition of Inside MMA on HDNet. To clear up any doubts, Atencio, confirmed that Affliction ‘Banned’ is a done deal for July 19 at The Honda Center, also known as The Pond, in Anaheim, California. The event will be on PPV, with any further coverage still in negotiations. In addition to the Fedor Emelianenko/Tim Sylvia and Josh Barnett/Pedro Rizzo fights, Atencio confirmed the participation of Ben Rothwell, Mike Whitehead and Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral, and the fight between Matt Lindland and Fabio Negao. There was no mention of Andre Arlovski, who has been rumored to participate as well. They are looking to have 10 fights total on the card.

Matt Lindland Likely To Face Fabio Negao At Affliction: Banned
Despite earlier rumors that Matt Lindland could have his chance to avenge losses against David Terrell or Murilo Bustamante at Affliction’s debut event ‘Banned,’ it appears Brazilian fighter Fabio Negao is now the likely candidate to be Lindland’s opponent, according to SI.com.
Negao is 8-3, which includes losses to Rousimar Palhares and Demian Maia, two fighters who now call the UFC their home. His most notable win was a unanimous decision victory over Roan Carneiro, who is also currently under UFC contract.
Negao as an opponent doesn’t give this match as much luster as the Emelianenko/Sylvia or Barnett/Rizzo fights but it still gives fans the opportunity to watch Lindland compete, which will be his first time in over a year since his loss to Fedor Emelianenko in BodogFight in April 2007.
Also keep in mind, the amount of money Affliction will be paying in fighter purses will be the highest in the history of the sport. A fighter like Negao in lieu of a Terrell or Bustamante will help keep costs down, or more appropriately, keep the purses from inflating any further.
