Jake Rosholt Cut By The UFC (Update)

Jake Rosholt & Kendall Grove

Nine times out of ten when a UFC fighter gets cut there’s a pretty good reason why. This one falls under that other 10%.

Assuming it’s not a fake Twitter account, Jake Rosholt tweeted earlier today that the UFC has released him from his contract.

Not a good day. Just found out I got cut by the #UFC

Typically, the UFC only cuts fighters after consecutive losses or when they feel they’re overpaid. Not the case here. Rosholt did just lose to Kendall Grove at UFC 106, but he was winning the fight right up until he got caught in a sneaky triangle choke. He only made $15,000 in show money. Prior to that, he submitted Chris Leben with an arm-triangle. Not exactly the type of performances that earn you a UFC pink slip.

Honestly, this one makes no sense whatsoever, so hopefully it’s all just one big misunderstanding. The kid may not be ready to take on the middleweight division’s elite, but he has a lot of potential.

Update: Rosholt is definitely out of the UFC. His manager confirmed the news with Sherdog, but sounded optimistic Jake would be back after a few wins outside the organization.

“I didn’t think he’d be released,” Ehrhardt said. “He had one fight left on his contract, and we thought he’d at least get that. He had a good performance [against Grove] up until he got caught. He was winning the fight. He’s young. We’ll go out and get some wins and be back.”

“We’ll look to get some quick fights in, three or four fights in the first six months of the year, and then we’ll go back and talk with [UFC matchmaker] Joe [Silva],” Ehrhardt said. “We’ve got plenty of time. I think he’s going to be one of the top middleweights.”

Spike To Air Davis-Saunders & Grove-Rosholt UFC 106 Prelims

Spike TV logoOnce again, Spike TV will air at least two preliminary fights as a lead-in to the UFC 106 pay-per-view broadcast.

Spike TV will telecast live undercard bouts from UFC 106 on Saturday, November 21 at 9:00pm ET/PT from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV. The fights on Spike TV will include “The Ultimate Fighter 3” victor Kendall Grove battling Jake Rosholt and “The Ultimate Fighter 6” contestant Ben Saunders facing “The Irish Hand Grenade,” Marcus Davis. The one-hour telecast will run commercial-free. UFC 106 will air on pay-per-view at 10:00pm ET.

This continues a very welcomed trend the UFC started with UFC 103 in attempt to persuade fans to purchase the UFC card over the Mayweather-Marquez fight. Boxing clearly won the battle that night, but the UFC and Spike must have found it beneficial nonetheless because this marks the third time Spike is broadcasting a portion of the prelims.

Jake Rosholt Can Jump Out Of A Pool Too

The whole pool jumping thing was kinda cool when BJ Penn and only two other people in the world had done it. But now that we’re starting to see more guys like Jake Rosholt, Redskins rookie WR Keith Eloi, Delonte Stephens, D1 football recruit Dakota Royer (4ft.), a Ohio State wrestler and some kid do it, it doesn’t seem like such an amazing feat anymore. Basically, if you’re a professional athlete who’s not a 300+ lbs. lineman, you can probably do it too.

Jake Rosholt’s Beer Fetching Dog

This video has been making the rounds for a couple days now, so you may have already seen it. But if you haven’t, you need to watch it, especially at the end where Jake Rosholt’s dog does the one thing every man wishes his significant other would do whenever asked—fetch a beer.
