Fields Dynamite!! 2008 Results & Wrap-Up

K-1 Dynamite!! 2008 PosterFields Dynamite!! 2008 took place earlier today at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Japanese MMA legends Kazushi Sakuraba and Kiyoshi Tamura finally squared off in the night’s main event.

In what should have the been the DREAM LW GP Final match-up, Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki met for the WAMMA Lightweight Championship.

Melvin Manhoef stepped in on a day’s notice for Jerome LeBanner to fight the much bigger K-1 vet Mark Hunt in a DREAM rules match.

Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, in the night’s David and Goliath bout, fought the Korean giant, Hong Man Choi.

Alistair Overeem took a tough fight under K-1 rules against K-1 Heavyweight king and resident bad boy Badr Hari.

Japanese freak show staple Bob Sapp participated in the mother of all freak shows when he fought an amateur wrestling champion dressed up as a Japanese anime character.

Gegard Mousasi, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Hayato “Mach” Sakurai, Semmy Schilt, Mighty Mo and Minnowaman were also in action.

The fight between Joachim Hansen and JZ Calvacante was canceled due an apparent head injury to Hansen. MMA Weekly has a report.

The biggest Japanese combat sports event of the year—Fields Dynamite!! 2008—is inching closer to kicking off in Japan. Earlier today (or yesterday?), the participants in the K-1/DREAM mixed event weighed in and a pre-fight press conference was held.

The biggest news coming out the press conference is Jerome LeBanner has come down with the flu and has withdrawn from his DREAM rules bout against hardcore fan favorite Mark Hunt. No need to be disappointed though, since explosive striker Melvin Manhoef has stepped in to replace him. Hunt will have a huge weight advantage in the fight, however, Manhoef is scary fast on his feet, so it should be an entertaining fight if nothing else.

The real disappointing news is that the Event Magic.tv internet pay-per-view deal has fallen through, meaning there will be no way (unless you’re resourceful) to watch the event live in the US.

Andy Olegun missed weight (.88lbs), however it sounded like he would be weighing in again. Not sure what happened with Cro Cop, Bob Sapp and Badr Hari as there was no results listed for them. I’ll update the list if their results come available.

Cro Cop To Face Badr Hari On NYE At Dynamite!! 2008?

Badr HariWe’re only a few weeks away from FEG’s Dynamite!! 2008 card, yet in typical Japan fashion, we only know a few of the match-ups. Ever since DREAM.6 concluded, it was widely speculated and almost expected that Cro Cop and Alistair Overeem would meet again to finally settle their score. Much like the first go-around, words were exchanged in the media, but for whatever reason the rematch was not booked. Instead, it’s been said that they would both fight on the card, however, against different opponents. Well, now it looks like they have more than just their pride to fight for, they also have their NYE opponent to fight over. Apparently, FEG is interested in booking Cro Cop against K-1 bad boy Badr Hari, but the funny part is Overeem is the one who wants a crack at Hari.

Rampage Wants Wandy Over Forrest; Hard-Hitting Middleweight Melvin Manhoef Retires

Quinton Rampage JacksonIf given the choice, who would you rather fight? Wanderlei Silva or Forrest Griffin? Personally, I’d take Forrest. I’d rather get my leg broken than my head knocked off. Lucky for you and me though that’s a choice we’ll never have to make.

That same question was posed by Fighters Only Magazine to Rampage Jackson, one of the three men who have actually fought both, and he chose Wanderlei. Here’s why.

DREAM.6 Results & Wrap-Up

DREAM.6 PosterDREAM.6 took place earlier today at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

It was the finals of the DREAM middleweight grand prix. Four fighters—Gegard Mousasi, Melvin Manhoef, Zelg Galesic, and Ronaldo Jacare—battled it out in the semi-finals with the winners coming back at the end of the show to fight for the grand prix championship.

Mirko Cro Cop was back in action for the second time this year. He didn’t get a softball this time around though. Instead, he looked to end months of trash talking from the always dangerous Alistair Overeem.

Shinya Aoki, Hayato ‘Mach’ Sakurai, Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Sergei Kharitonov were also in action.

If you haven’t seen the fights yet, and want to before spoiling yourself with the results, you can check them out here.
