World Series Of Fighting Holding Off Title Fights Until Late 2013

According to World Series of Fighting president Ray Sefo, the promotion will not be awarding any title belts in the coming months.

Instead, the WSOF has plans to crown champions later this year, Sefo confirmed on Twitter.

“There is a lot of talk about (WSOF) titles, to clear things up WSOF will not be doing any title fights till the end of 2013,” Sefo wrote.

The next World Series of Fighting card is scheduled for June 14, with Jon Fitch taking on Josh Burkman and John Gunderson battling Dan Lauzon. No location has been pinned down, but the event is set to air on NBC Sports Network.

Jon Fitch-Josh Burkman Slated As Main Event Of World Series Of Fighting 3

The next World Series of Fighting card doesn’t have a location, but it has a date and a main event.

WSOF 3 will go down June 14, with welterweights Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman competing in the headliner fight, MMAFighting.com confirmed on Wednesday.

The bout will mark Fitch’s debut with the promotion, as he was released by the UFC earlier this year. He is a former No. 1 contender in the UFC, going 14-3-1 during his time in the promotion.

Burkman, also a former UFC fighter, defeated Aaron Simpson at the most recent WSOF show. He has won seven of his last eight fights.

This match was pretty much confirmed when Fitch entered the cage after Burkman’s win vs. Simpson. Can Burkman finish a second straight strong wrestler? We will find out in June.

Josh Burkman Seeks Future WSOF Title Fight After Facing Aaron Simpson

Josh Burkman believes a future World Series of Fighting championship match is on the line when he faces Aaron Simpson this Saturday at WSOF 2.

Burkman (24-9) has picked up three straight victories since a decision loss to current UFC fighter Jordan Mein. He was looking to secure another shot inside the Octagon, but feels the WSOF is the place to be now – a sees a title fight in his future.

“I think that (the WSOF) needs to give Jon Fitch a fight and I think that the winner of that fight needs to fight the winner of this fight for the World Series of Fighting title,” said Burkman, during a recent appearance on Sherdog Radio. “I don’t think anybody should get cut from an organization and come off a loss and fight for a title.”

Fitch was released by the UFC recently, and is expected to make his debut later this year.

Burkman fought in the UFC last almost five years ago, falling to Pete Sells. He went 5-5 in 10 Octagon appearances.

Simpson, like Burkman and Fitch, is also a former UFC fighter. Talk of titles being on the line seems to center around later this year for the WSOF, and you would have to think that these three are right there in line.

Jon Fitch Felt Like The UFC Never Really Wanted Him

Jon Fitch believes he was never fully invested by the UFC, and that the promotion jumped at the first opportunity to release him.

Fitch, a former No. 1 contender to the UFC welterweight title, has signed with World Series of Fighting and is expected to debut with the promotion later this year in the main event.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Fitch disclosed his feelings towards his ex-promotion.

I never really felt comfortable or wanted there. It was just an overall feeling. I never felt like I got a lot of attention that other people did that were doing the same thing as me.

Fitch was widely-criticized by both MMA fans and UFC officials for his style of attack – but there was no denying his success. Fitch went 14-3-1 in his Octagon career, including a decision loss to Georges St-Pierre in a world title match.

For now, he is happy to be heading to the WSOF, saying, “The important thing is that I am going to be with an organization now that I really feel we’re going to get a chance to do something big.”

Jon Fitch Breaks Silence, Signs With World Series Of Fighting

Following his release from The UFC, Jon Fitch stayed off the radar, but with a fresh World Series of Fighting contract in hand, Fitch breaks his radio silence.

Jon Fitch, As Expected, Signs With World Series Of Fighting

As was previously rumored, former UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch ahs signed a multi-fight deal with the World Series of Fighting.

Fitch (24-5-1) was the biggest name released by the UFC late last month. The promotion has hinted at upwards of 100 fighters will be cut to clean up the roster.

MMA Fighting confirmed the signing, with Fitch expected to debut on the June 14 card from Las Vegas.

Jon Fitch: News On Next Fight Later This Week

Former UFC No. 1 contender Jon Fitch appears set to find a new home, and it likely will be the World Series of Fighting.

Fitch, however, declined to confirm anything on Monday. Instead, he posted a message eluding to a statement being released later this week detailing his next fight.

Fitch (24-5-1) went just 1-2-1 in his last four UFC fights, and was released last week. He is currently on his way to Japan for Saturday’s UFC card.

Back in 2008, the 35-year-old earned himself a UFC welterweight title shot against Georges St-Pierre. He reeled off five consecutive wins after the loss, but has found trouble since a 2011 draw with BJ Penn.

World Series of Fighting president Ray Sefo recently stated that the two sides were in talks, which seems to be the best place for Fitch to go after Bellator MMA made it known they had no interest in him.

Despite his age, Fitch can still go, though his grinding style hasn’t played well with fans. I’m interested in seeing who the WSOF – if that is where he goes – pairs him up with.

UFC Boss On Recent Series Of Releases: ‘The Blood Has Not All Been Spilled Yet’

Jon Fitch’s surprise release from the UFC caught the attention of social media, and UFC president Dana White was attacked through the various outlets.

During the pre-fight press conference for UFC 157 earlier this week, the UFC boss made it known that more cuts are coming.

We have 470-something guys under contract. We have over 100 guys too many on the roster right now. The blood has not all been spilled yet.

Harsh words from the man in charge of the biggest MMA promotion in the world.

You have to consider everyone not wearing a title belt, being though of as a contender in the near future, or in good standing with the UFC as potential release victims.

If someone like Fitch, who competed for the title and won over a dozen bouts inside the Octagon, can be released, any fighter with a string of defeats should be looking over his shoulder.
