For women’s MMA, Gina Carano vs. Cris Cyborg is a mega-fight. It’s the fight that should have taken place on Oct. 4 on CBS. Instead, EliteXC officials chose to match Carano and Cyborg up with different opponents to build towards a big clash on pay-per-view. From a business standpoint, that may have been the smart move, IF you knew for sure you would be around long enough to put the pay-per-view on. As we all know now that didn’t happen, and yet another huge fight slips through the cracks…well, at least for now.

The FSBC has released the fighter payouts for EliteXC “Heat” to Sherdog.com. Keep in mind, these figures represent the base contracted pay the fighter receives from the promotion. These figures do not include any additional bonuses or sponsorship money, which in many cases exceeds a fighter’s base pay. These numbers also do not account for taxes, insurance, and license fees.

As the result of a co-promotion with Afflliction, heavyweights Andrei Arlovski and Roy Nelson met in the cage for a possible chance to fight Fedor Emelianenko.
Gina Carano looked to keep her undefeated streak going against Kelly Kobald.
Murilo ‘Ninja’ Rua and Benji Radach battled it out to get one step closer to a middleweight title shot.

Did Cris Cyborg’s utter destruction of Shayna Baszler at EliteXC “Unifinished Business” leave you wanting to see her take on EliteXC’s golden girl Gina Carano on October 4? Yeah, well, us too, but it doesn’t look it’s going to happen. According to NBCSports.com’s Mike Chiappetta, it appears EliteXC is choosing to put Kelly Kobald-Gavin in the cage with Carano at CBS Saturday Night Fights III.

EliteXC On CBS ‘Unfinished Business’ Results & Wrap-Up
EliteXC “Unfinished Business” took place earlier this evening at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, California. A portion of the card aired on Showtime. The main card was broadcast live on CBS. This event was the second mixed martial arts event to air on major network television.
Three titles were on the line tonight.
Antonio Silva looked to stake his claim as the EliteXC Heavyweight Champion in a match against former UFC fighter Justin Eilers.
Jake Shields finally got his opportunity to compete for a championship belt as he faced off the always dangerous Nick Thompson.
In a rematch from EliteXC’s network television debut, Robbie Lawler looked to defend his middleweight crown against Scott Smith. The first fight ended in controversy when Lawler inadvertently poked Smith in the eye causing the doctors to stop the fight.
Nick Diaz, Rafael Feijao, Shayna Baszler, Wilson Reis and Cris Cyborg were also in action.

EliteXC ‘Unfinished Business’ Preview, Picks & Betting Lines
EliteXC “Unfinished Business” will take place tomorrow, July 26, at 8PM ET/7PM CT on Showtime and 9PM ET/ 8PM CT on CBS. This will be the promotion’s second show on primetime network television and will feature a rematch for the EliteXC Middleweight Championship between champ Robbie Lawler and challenger Scott Smith.
