Sengoku Wants FEG To ‘Severely Reprimand’ Aoki, Other Notes From Japan

Shinya Aoki gives Mizuto Hirota the birdFans and media members weren’t the only ones who were disgusted with Shinya Aoki’s actions immediately following the Mizuto Hirota bout at Dynamite!! 2009. World Victory Road was too, and now they’re demanding that FEG take action and “severely reprimand” Aoki for his behavior.

FEG Announces DREAM vs. Sengoku For Dynamite!! 2009

Dynamite Dream & Sengoku

Japan’s worst-kept secret is now official. A press conference was held in Japan earlier today to announce that FEG (K-1 & DREAM) will hold their Dynamite!! 2009 event with World Victory Road’s Sengoku.

Sengoku’s big Satoshi Ishii vs. Hidehiko Yoshida fight will serve as the double main event along with Masato’s K-1 retirement fight. The plan is to book seven DREAM vs. Sengoku fights on the 18-19 fight card, although no specific match-ups were announced. Along with the rest of the card, the rules and the weight classes are still being discussed.

Despite Sengoku ditching their own NYE show large in part due to their unsuccessful attempts at securing a television deal and the loss of their primary sponsor Don Quijote, WVR’s GM says they will continue to hold events next year, but like similar instances in the past, not everyone is buying it.

Interestingly enough, it sounds like FieLDS who sponsors Dynamite!! won’t renew their contract next year which leaves the door open for Don Quijote (Japanese discount super-stores) to slide in and take their place. Except they might be looking to get a little more involved than merely being a sponsor. Now rumors are swirling that Don Quijote is actually interested in buying DREAM which is kinda crazy when you think about it. Would be like Wal-Mart owning Strikeforce (I think).

There’s definitely a lot going on behind-the-scenes across the Pacific these days. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Bellator FC LogoThere’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes at MMAConvert these days, so whether you’ve noticed it or not, I’ve kind of feel like I’ve been playing catch up on getting a lot of the stories out, especially in the mornings. I apologize about that, but the stuff we’re working on are going to be major improvements over what you see now, so ultimately, we definitely feel it will all be well worth it.
