Couture-Affliction Falling Out Reaches Whole New Level (Update III - Affliction’s Partnerships Doomed?)

Todd BeardIf Tom Atencio is Affliction’s Dr. Jeckyll, then Todd Beard is without a doubt Affliction’s Mr. Hyde. Since Randy Couture re-signed with the UFC, we’ve learned that Beard, one of Affliction’s co-founders, has quite the temper when it was reported that Beard had cussed out Lorenzo Fertitta on a conference call, and subsequently appeared on Scott Ferrall’s radio show where he blasted the UFC, Lorenzo, Dana White, and Randy Couture. There were also rumblings of personal attacks on Randy’s wife, Kim, which judging by the latest news appears to be true.

Randy Couture: ‘I Don’t Intend To Do Anymore Business With Todd Beard or Affliction In Any Way’

Steve Cofield did this lengthy interview with Randy Couture. One of the more interesting parts of it is when Cofield asks Randy about his relationship with Affliction and its co-founder Todd Beard. Here’s what he said:

Things will come out the way they come out, but I don’t intend to do anymore business with Todd or Affliction in any way. Whether or not they still manufacture the [Xtreme Couture] line down the road or not is still yet to be seen. But, you know, guys with drinking problems is what it boils down to. I’ve seen at several different professional meetings, business manager meetings, where he’s ordering shots and just out of control, and that’s not something I really want to be associated with.

Any small amount of optimism I might have had left for Affliction is officially gone.

In part two (after the jump) Randy talks about Brock Lesnar blowing up over the steroid questions and how he intends to use Brock’s short fuse against him.

Never Mix Business With Pleasure (Update)

Randy CoutureThere’s an old saying - never mix business with pleasure. When the “pleasure” goes sour, the business relationship suffers. Well, that’s sorta what’s happened with Affliction and Randy Couture, except instead of mixing business with pleasure, they tried to mix business with more business.

Fox News Fight Game: Arguing Affliction

More Todd Beard talk, but the question of if that actually was Beard on The Scott Ferrall Show still lingers. Literally everybody is reporting it as Beard, but was it just an error in one media report and it snowballed from there? I wouldn’t think twice if Dana White hadn’t refuted it, and basically made the guy out to be a nobody who owns a Men’s Wearhouse, but wouldn’t he know if it was Beard or not? Somehow this guy’s affiliated with Affliction, but it would be nice to get some kind of confirmation from them in case the media is blasting the wrong guy. If we’ve missed that, please let us know.

Late last week, reports surfaced that the UFC and Affliction held talks to form a formal partnership. As the story goes, the UFC made an offer for Affliction to sign on as a major UFC apparel sponsor in exchange for Affliction ceasing their fight operations. Today, Sam Caplan spoke to Tom Atencio about the reports, and while he confirmed a meeting took place on Sept. 26 between the two parties, he claims the UFC never made an offer for them to consider.

Dana White On Tapout Radio: Responds To Ferrall & Affliction Interview, And More

Dana White

Haven’t had a chance to listen to the whole interview yet, but Dana and the Tapout Radio crew start talking about Scott Ferrall and the interview he did with the Affliction guys about a minute into it. White claims the guy who made all the statements about the UFC, Lorenzo Fertitta, and Station Casinos was not Todd Beard. He didn’t say his name, but did say he’s “a little fat prick who owns a Men’s Wearhouse or something like that.” Dana did say that this guy was in the meeting from three weeks, so he’s apparently affiliated with Affliction somehow. I’ll let you know if I figure out who this guy really is.

Affliction & UFC: Deal? No Deal! CageFighter Banned From The UFC (Update - Must Hear Audio)

Affliction & UFC No Deal

If they didn’t like each other before, then they hate each other now. In the past few days, you may have heard rumblings about Affliction executives going off on Lorenzo Fertitta and the UFC. Dana briefly mentioned it in his latest video blog, and if I remember correctly, Jeff Thaler alluded to it on the latest episode of FightOpinion Radio. So what was it all about? Good question, but it appears the answer has been made public.
