A Year Later, Jared Shaw On The Outside Looking In

How much do you miss this guy? Oh, not at all, that’s alright, Jared Shaw is cool with that as he tells MMA Fanhouse’s Ariel Helwani. He’d love to be involved in mixed martial arts again, but there’s not too many opportunities floating around these days for fall guys of previously failed promotions. $kala’s not upset that he took a ton of heat when EliteXC was crumbling (he wasn’t the only one), he just wishes the chiefs would have listened to him. For example, Jared thought pitting Kimbo Slice against Ken Shamrock was an awful idea. He wanted Brett Rogers because he thought at least if Kimbo lost, he could have built Rogers into a star. Fast forward a year and he’s a little disappointed that Kimbo decided to take the TUF route. He doesn’t think Kimbo will ever be an elite mixed martial artist (oh really?) — too many tricks for that old dog to learn. Instead, Kimbo should have went to boxing where the sport is dying for another heavyweight like Mike Tyson or Evander Holyfield. The Shaw’s would have no doubt promoted Kimbo as the next Tyson, but if he couldn’t knock out a glass-jawed James Thompson with 4 oz. gloves what are the chances of him obliterating professional boxers with 12 oz. gloves? Yeah, not very good, but nice try $kala. While he hopes that one day he can go to work for someone like Strikeforce or even the UFC, he doesn’t have his hopes up. Instead, he’s working on his music and hopes to produce a few ring entrance tracks for fighters. Just not for Herschel Walker, he thinks Walker in MMA is a joke. Oh, the irony.

Blood, Sweat ‘n Bling Back On

Haha, guess what’s back on? “Blood, Sweat ‘n Bling,” your own personal view into the crazy f*cked up world Gary Shaw lives in.

Now that our friend Ariel Helwani is back at work covering mixed martial arts for Versus.com (Congrats Ariel!), he was able to land the first exclusive interview with Jared “$kala” Shaw since news first broke that ProElite was going under.

Dana White’s UFC 90 Video Blog: Day Two – First Public Comments On ProElite’s Death

The inevitable comments from Dana White on ProElite’s death are here, and as you probably expected, he’s a pretty happy guy. White calls it a “great day for MMA.” He then proceeds to rip into Jeremy Lappen, Jared Shaw, and Gary Shaw.

Details Of The Florida DBPR Investigation Into EliteXC

Florida DBPR LogoThe Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s investigation into the EliteXC alleged bribery scandal has commenced. What that investigation actually entails is now detailed in a report from MMA Weekly.

Dana White Blasts EliteXC For The Alleged Bribery Scandal (Video)

Dana White is piiisssed! He goes off on EliteXC for the alleged bribery scandal in this video, and rightfully so. Of course, he’s assuming they’re guilty, but he pretty much has to to distance the UFC from the situation as much as possible. The whole rant is quote worthy, but my personal favorite is when he addresses $kala as “rapper whatever your name is, Shaw Jr.” Funny stuff.

And White actually had an analogy that made sense for once. Props to MDS at MMA Fanhouse for the transcription.

“It would be like the NFL, there’s a game between the Patriots and the Browns and the NFL goes into the locker rooms and tells the players, ‘Listen, the Patriots pull higher ratings if they make it to the playoffs and the Super Bowl than the Browns do. So here’s what we’re going to do: The Browns have a great running game. We’re going to pay your team more money if you just pass tonight, don’t run, because we need the Patriots to make it to the next level.’ That’s f—ing illegal. They’re being investigated by the Florida Athletic Commission. They ought to be investigated by the FBI, too.”

Kim Couture Says $kala Is A Pervert And Gina Carano Is Underpaid

Steve Cofield of Yahoo! Sports and ESPN Radio 1100 interviews Kim Couture who was in attendance at the EliteXC “Heat” event in Gina Carano’s corner. She claims that $kala is a pervert and tried to sneak a peak during Carano’s embarrassing naked weigh-in. Big surprise, professionalism always seems to elude $kala. She also says the reason why Gina only made $25,000 while Kimbo is making a half a mil is because she’s still on a very long contract. Hopefully, she can renegotiate because $25,000 is ridiculous for one of their top drawing stars.

Dana White & Gary Shaw Weigh In On The EliteXC Alleged Bribery Scandal (MMAConvert.com In The Los Angeles Times)

Dana WhiteZach Arnold put together a great article earlier on the mainstream media’s coverage of the EliteXC alleged bribery scandal. It has snowballed into a public relations nightmare for EliteXC as the mainstream press has picked up on the story. Dana White has finally broke his silence on the subject, and as you probably expected, he didn’t have anything nice to say about EliteXC. White’s former nemesis, Gary Shaw, who is officially still an EliteXC consultant, also put in his two cents, and it certainly doesn’t help EliteXC’s cause.

Damage Control III

Animated Gif EliteXC Execs React To Seth Petruzelli Knocking Out Kimbo SliceIf Jared Shaw had any credibility whatsoever with mixed martial arts fans prior to Saturday’s shocking turn of events, he pretty much lost it all when he was seen yelling at the ref as Kimbo was getting beat down by Seth Petruzelli, as evidenced in the animated gif to the right.

There’s not really any way to spin it, so $kala has elected to say he’s sorry instead.

“I watched the tape back today. While I think that the ref may have missed the (blow to the back of the head) call, my reactions at ringside – I saw them myself – were inappropriate and inexcusable.

“I apologize to the MMA community and the fans and most of all Seth Petruzelli as although my reactions can not change a referee’s decision, they were inappropriate at the time and over a heated and tense mixed martial arts event.”

“Again, I apologize to the community. I am all for fair mixed martial arts fighting and I am very happy to represent Seth Petruzelli.”

I almost want to give him credit for coming out and apologizing, but I’m a little skeptical of his motives and afraid I’m going to regret it the next time he opens his mouth and makes a public statement.

Damage Control II

$kala’s at it again in this video of the EliteXC “Heat” post-fight press conference. He calls Seth Petruzelli the “modern day Rocky Balboa.” Seth deserves all the credit he gets for stepping up last minute and beating Kimbo on the national stage, but $kala, like always, is way too over the top. A promoter’s job is to manipulate perception and turn it into reality, but you have to at least not come across as completely full of shit in the process.
