Affliction vs UFC: July 19 Is Here!

Affliction Banned vs UFC

July 19 is finally here. Tonight is arguably the biggest night ever in mixed martial arts history. For the first time, two major events—Affliction “Banned” and Ultimate Fight Night 14 “Silva vs Irvin”—will be going head to head. Affliction “Banned” starts at 8PM ET/ 5PM PT on FSN (some markets are showing baseball instead). The pay-per-view will begin at 9PM ET/ 6PM PT and air until 1AM ET / 10PM PT. UFC Ultimate Fight Night 14 “Silva vs Irvin” will air live on Spike TV at 9PM ET/ 6PM PT (it will air live in the west coast) and go until 12PM ET / 9PM PT, with immediate replays.

I’ve read, wrote, and watched as many previews as I can handle at this point. I’m ready to see the fights! If you haven’t had your eyes plastered to your computer screen in anticipation for this incredible night, be sure to check out all of our coverage on both events.

Our plan is to watch Affliction live and DVR the UFC, so we’ll have our Affliction results and wrap-up shortly following the conclusion of the Affliction event. We’re starting the UFC right after that so we should have those results sometime around 3-4PM ET (we hope).

Whichever one you watch or if you’re toughing it out like us and watching both, enjoy the fights, and be sure to check us out later and tomorrow for all the post-fight fallout from both shows.

One final attempt to get you fired up for tonight after the jump.

As reported during the Affliction “Banned” weigh-in results, Aleksander Emelianenko was not cleared to fight in a heavyweight match against Paul Buentello at Affliction’s inaugural event.

MMAMania.com spoke to the head of the CSAC, Armando Garcia, for official confirmation.

Aleksander Emelianenko failed to meet the medical licensing requirements and will be unable to compete against Paul Buentello tomorrow night at the Affliction: “Banned” event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

MMAmania.com just confirmed the bad news with California State Athletic Commission Executive Director, Armando Garcia, directly.

The state has very strict medical privacy laws; therefore, Mr. Garcia was unable to elaborate on the situation.

This is extremely disappointing. I was so pumped up to see Aleks hunt ‘The Headhunter’ after reading about him killing bears with a giant fork. But, I guess it wouldn’t be a California sanctioned MMA event without someone getting booted off the card. Although, it could have been worse. It could have been Fedor.

Affliction ‘Banned’ Preview, Picks And Betting Lines

ufc

Affliction “Banned” will take place tomorrow, July 19, at 8PM ET/5PM PT on FSN and 9PM ET/6PM PT on pay-per-view. Billed as “the greatest North American fight card in MMA history,” Affliction “Banned” features five of the world’s top ten heavyweights including the return of number one heavyweight in the world, Fedor Emelianenko, to the United States.

The Fights

Minus (-) = favorite | Plus (+) = underdog

With a line of -150 & +150, you would have to wager $150 to win $100 if you’re picking the favorite. You would win $150 for every $100 if you bet on the underdog assuming he won.

If that has you baffled or you don’t feel like doing the math, BetUS has a new MMA betting calculator that I highly recommend you use so you don’t have to pull out that old dusty TI-2000 hiding in your drawer.

Entire Affliction ‘Banned’ Fight Card To Be Aired; Nearing Sellout (Update)

Affliction Banned Press Conference

As July 19 quickly approaches (that’s tomorrow if you didn’t know!), Affliction and the UFC have been going back and forth trying to one up each other ever since Affliction’s foray into mixed martial arts was announced. The UFC’s latest move was to air their card live on Spike TV in west coast, which is a first, as it’s usually aired on a tape-delay there. Now, presumably to get one final shot in, Affliction has informed MMAJunkie.com that the entire “Banned” event will be broadcast.

Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Saturday night’s pay-per-view broadcast will run a full four hours and will feature eight bouts. Additionally, FSN will air three bouts, rather than the previously reported two fights.

In other words, between FSN and PPV, the entire “Banned” fight card will be televised.
