DREAM.3 is now in the books. Three quarterfinal matches in DREAM’s Lightweight Grand Prix took place as well as a welterweight title contender bout between Nick Diaz and Katsuya Inoue and a middleweight grand prix round match between Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller and Katsuyori Shibata. Melvin Mahoef and Kim Dae Won squared off in a middleweight grand prix reserve bout.

I don’t have HDNet so I didn’t get to see the show in its entirety, but I caught quite a few of the fights on the internet. The fights I saw were very entertaining particularly the one many are calling a fight of the year candidate.

Thoughts and results after the jump.

DREAM.3 Lightweight GP Rd. 2 Tommorow

Quick reminder that DREAM.3 will be taking place tommorow. HDNet will broadcast the event live at 3AM ET, and replay it at 4PM ET. Here’s a sweet promo for round 2 of the lightweight grand prix.

Nick Diaz and Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller are on the card. They, alone, are reason enough to watch. Joachim Hansen vs. Eddie Alvarez. How awesome is that fight going to be?

Nick Diaz Fighting In DREAM.3 After All

Nick DiazThe drama never ends with Nick Diaz. It’s no wonder he’s full of conspiracy theories, with all the things that happen with him. After being pulled off the DREAM.3 card by EliteXC because the event was too close to EliteXC’s Hawaii show on June 14 (where Diaz is scheduled to compete), EliteXC apparently has had a change of heart and is now allowing him to fight Katsuya Inoue in Japan this weekend, according to Sherdog.

EliteXC Forces Nick Diaz To Withdraw From DREAM Fight (Update)

Nick DiazThese days, if Nick Diaz is involved in something, something is bound to go wrong. Nick Diaz, perhaps trying to make up for lost time after he was barred from competing at the EliteXC/Strikeforce card on March 29 by the CSAC, booked two fights in a little over a month’s time. Diaz was recently announced to fight on the DREAM.3 card on May 11 in a welterweight title contender match, while already having a fight booked for EliteXC on June 14 in Hawaii. Josh Gross is reporting that EliteXC President Gary Shaw has decided a May 11 appearance in Japan is too close to EliteXC’s June 14 event, and is forcing Diaz to withdraw from the DREAM bout.

Nick Diaz Added To DREAM.3 Card

Nick DiazThe DREAM organization announced more fights that have been added to their DREAM.3 card scheduled for May 11. The announcement included Nick Diaz, the controversial fighter who’s as well-known for his marijuana habits as his fighting. Diaz will be taking on Katsuya Inoue in what Japan MMA is calling a Welterweight Championship Eliminator. MMA Junkie is reporting that the winner will advance on to fight Hayato ‘Mach’ Sakurai this fall for the DREAM welterweight title.

Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller was also a part of the announcement. Japan MMA is showing his match-up with Katsuyori Shibata as a Middleweight GP Round 1 bout. The fight would give the tournament a needed boost after losing some of its top stars in the opening round.

The announced fights were as follows:

  • Nick Diaz vs. Katsuya Inoue
  • Jung Bukyung vs. Daisuke Nakamura
  • Jason Miller vs. Katsuyori Shibata
  • Melvin Manhoef vs. Kim Dae Won
  • Takeshi Yamazaki vs. TBA
