Fans and media members weren’t the only ones who were disgusted with Shinya Aoki’s actions immediately following the Mizuto Hirota bout at Dynamite!! 2009. World Victory Road was too, and now they’re demanding that FEG take action and “severely reprimand” Aoki for his behavior.
Alistair Overeem reiterated his desire to face Fedor Emelianenko at the Dynamite!! 2009 post-fight press conference. As we recently learned, Overeem has another K-1 fight coming up in March which all but rules him out for an appearance on CBS for Strikeforce in April. He says he’ll be ready in May or June though and wants Fedor then.
“In March I have other obligations with K-1. So I think April is a little bit too close to do such an important fight. So March, K-1 and then May-June, Fedor. That’s the plan.”
Problem is unless Strikeforce and CBS push their second network show back a month or two, Fedor will be fighting in April, so he won’t be ready to get back in the cage in May or June just because Overeem finally found time to fit a trip to the US into his busy schedule. They need to fight, let’s just hope Overeem makes time for it at some point in 2010.
“After my fight, I was excited, and so I did something rude that I should apologize for. But that showed just how excited I was over that fight…When I had his arm behind his back, I could feel it popping. I thought, ‘Well, this guy’s pride just won’t let him tap, will it?’ So without hesitation, I broke it. I heard it break, and I thought, ‘Ah, there, I just broke it.’ I was stopped afterward, but even if I hadn’t been, continuing to break it more would have been fine by me…Dream got a solid win [with my victory over Hirota], so that was good, but we finished off Sengoku. Although Sengoku was already finished from the very beginning. When Sasahara tells me to go and do something, I do it, and that’s how I live my life. If Sasahara tells me to go to Strikeforce and take them out or ‘Go and kill that guy,’ I’m going to do it. Even if he tells me to go take out Tanigawa, I’d do that too.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m not getting that warm fuzzy feeling from Aoki that’s he truly regretful for his actions which one prominent MMA journalist described as the “behavior of a crank toddler.” His message to Tatsuya Kawajiri didn’t help either.
“I received a challenge from [Kawajiri], and so without telling him to shut the f— up, I accept the challenge and look forward to our fight,” said the colorful grappler, who added that he would like to have seven to 10 fights in 2010.
Gee, how nice of him. I wonder what Scott Coker thinks about all of this.

Typically, a fighter’s plans don’t extend past his next fight. Not the case with Gegard Mousasi. The first half of his 2010 fight schedule has already been mapped out.
Mousasi’s rumored fight against Gary Goodridge is now official, but will be contested under MMA rules, not K-1 rules, at M-1’s request. Before the fight was officially booked he had planned on competing in a professional boxing match on Jan. 8, but that was scrapped when the Dynamite!! 2009 fight finally came together just days before the event.
Looking past his fight in Japan late tomorrow night, Mousasi will compete alongside Fedor Emelianenko on Strikeforce’s second CBS card in April according to his manager, Apy Echteld. Then in May he will participate in the first round of DREAM’s Light Heavyweight Grand Prix FEG apparently has planned. If he wins his first bout, he would then return to Japan in July for the second round of the tournament.
“We are waiting for the schedule of Strikeforce,” Echteld said. “It is a little bit surprising for us that there is no schedule yet. [Mousasi] will fight in April, together with Fedor (Emelianenko).
“After that, the 30th of May, he will have a fight in Japan – the first round of the light heavyweight championship. Then in July, he will have his second round of the light heavyweight championship.”
Mousasi’s plans for the second half of 2010 are still up in the air. He still wants to box so if his schedule permits, he’d still like to get back in the boxing ring. Either way, it appears Mousasi is going to be very active in 2010.
The question is, will he be tested?
I hope so, and I hope that test comes in the form of Dan Henderson.

In another DREAM vs. SRC fight, Melvin Manhoef vs. Kazou Misaki has been added to the FieLDS Dynamite!! 2009 card scheduled for NYE at 3AM ET on HDNet.
DREAM has released a video with highlights from the Super Hulk Tournament which will conclude with the final match between Minowaman and Sokoudjou on NYE at Dynamite!! 2009. I guess it’s only fitting that it managed to garner over 70,000 views on YouTube in two days when 99% of DREAM’s other videos didn’t even approach 10,000 views in two months. Conclusion: the freak show matches aren’t going anywhere.
