Nick Diaz On The Noons/Edwards Post-Fight Altercation, Who Set It Up And More

Nick Diaz is seemingly always at the center of controversy. From his public admittance of marijuana usage to last Saturday night’s altercation with the Noons family, there’s always something to talk about with Diaz. We’ve already heard from Noons Sr. on the post-fight melee, and now Diaz has spoken out—via Carlos Arias of The OC Register—on his thoughts, who was responsible for putting him in the cage in the first place and more.

KJ Noons Sr. Talks About Post-Fight Melee With Nick And Nate Diaz

I’m sorry, but as unprofessional and disrespectful as the Diaz brothers were, Noons Sr. isn’t any better and in my opinion, worse. Diaz entering the cage after Noon’s victory was an obvious attempt by EliteXC to hype up a rematch between KJ and Nick. Nick and Nate were certainly being disrespectful by throwing the middle finger around, but when Noons Jr. went after Diaz, his father should have grabbed him and held him back. Instead, he first went after Nate, and then Nick, both likely less than half his age.

Nick and Nate are old enough to know better, but immaturity is still present in the early 20’s. However, Noons Sr., likely in his late 40’s or 50’s, has no damn excuse for going after them like he did and then talking shit about on camera.

“They’re just punks and I hope we don’t see them out tonight.” Are you serious? Absolutely classless.

Seriously, Mr. Noons, grow up and act your damn age.

Smith vs Lawler II Announced For July 26 On CBS; EliteXC: Return of the King Results

Robbie Lawler vs Scott Smith
More EliteXC ‘Primetime’ photos at CombatLifestyle.com

In case you missed tonight’s broadcast of EliteXC: Return of the King on Showtime, it was announced that EliteXC and CBS will in fact move forward with their second show in late July. Scott Smith and Robbie Lawler will headline the card in a rematch for the EliteXC Middleweight Championship.

Smith and Lawler first fought two weeks ago at EliteXC ‘Primetime’ on CBS which was turning out to be a classic fight reminiscent of Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar’s all out war at UFC’s TUF 1 Finale. The fight was even going into the third with Lawler and Smith each taking a round on the judges’ scorecards. Unfortunately, the fight came to an abrupt and anti-climatic end in the third when Lawyer accidentally poked Smith in the eye resulting in a no-contest.

No additional details were given on EliteXC’s second primetime network event, although Jake Shields and Antonio ‘Junior’ Silva are rumored to be fighting for the organization’s welterweight and heavyweight titles, respectively. With UFC 86 and Affliction ‘Banned’ already booked for earlier in the month, July is going to be a huge month with three major mixed martial arts events.

EliteXC: Return of the King Weigh-In Results; Diaz Misses Weight

EliteXC: Return of the King PosterWeigh-ins for tonight’s EliteXC: Return of the King took place yesterday. The event will air live on Showtime tonight at 10PM ET/PT.

There was a hiccup. Nick Diaz missed his originally scheduled weight limit of 160lbs by nine pounds weighing in at 169lbs. According to EliteXC officials, an agreement was made prior to the weigh-ins for Diaz’s match against Corbbrey to be contested at a catchweight of 168lbs. It is unclear at this time why Diaz was so far off the mark. Nick does not have a history of missing weight.

EliteXC Forces Nick Diaz To Withdraw From DREAM Fight (Update)

Nick DiazThese days, if Nick Diaz is involved in something, something is bound to go wrong. Nick Diaz, perhaps trying to make up for lost time after he was barred from competing at the EliteXC/Strikeforce card on March 29 by the CSAC, booked two fights in a little over a month’s time. Diaz was recently announced to fight on the DREAM.3 card on May 11 in a welterweight title contender match, while already having a fight booked for EliteXC on June 14 in Hawaii. Josh Gross is reporting that EliteXC President Gary Shaw has decided a May 11 appearance in Japan is too close to EliteXC’s June 14 event, and is forcing Diaz to withdraw from the DREAM bout.

Drew Fickett Pulls Out Of EliteXC Welterweight Title Fight Due To Injury

Drew FickettDrew Fickett and Jake Shields had already been rescheduled to fight for the EliteXC Welterweight Championship on June 14 in Hawaii; Shields suffered a back injury that caused him to withdraw from their March 29 match at EliteXC/Strikefore: Le vs. Shamrock. Now it looks like the match will have to rescheduled once again due to a knee injury that Fickett sustained during training.
