While the card lived up to the billing on several fronts, it did not reach the 1.3 million pay-per-view buys that White was hoping for.

“I truly believed we would do a 1.3 million,” said White, during a recent interview session with members of the media following UFC 149′s pre-fight press conference. “It’s the first time I was disappointed with an awesome number. The number didn’t suck.”

UFC 148 Drug Tests Are All Clean After Testing By Nevada Athletic Commission

The Nevada Athletic Commission tested all 22 fighters who took part in the UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II event recently. All 22 passed their drug tests for performance enhancing drugs and recreational drugs.

Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer confirmed the results of the tests in an email with MMAjunkie.com.

It was also confirmed that Chael Sonnen, who competed in the main event against Anderson Silva, was granted his TRT exemption.

The commission is starting to take a forward stance in trying to keep drugs out of MMA, and by testing all the fighters on the card is a step in that direction.

Dong Hyun Kim Suffered Muscle Spasm, Not Broken Rib, Vs. Demian Maia

Demian Maia probably doesn’t really care what happened, as the end result was a victory for him.

But, what appeared to be an injury to his ribs turned out to be a severe muscle spasm that caused the end of the Maia-Dong Hyun Kim match this past weekend at UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II.

Kim’s manager, Brian Rhee, posted on the MMA forum The Underground, that his fighter suffered the spasm during the opening round of action against Maia. This was the first contest at welterweight for Maia, who was once a contender to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

Rhee posted that Kim had suffered the same kind of muscle spasm in training, “all the time, but for some reason, it caused a severe muscle spasm in this particular time. It truly was a freak accident.”

The loss was just the second of Kim’s career, with the first coming to current interim UFC welterweight champion Carlos Condit last year.

“It’s a terrible way to lose a fight,” Rhee wrote, “and ‘Stun Gun’ is really bummed out about it. I’m sure he’ll be back and going strong soon enough, though!”

Anderson Silva Did Something Special Inside The Octagon, According To Chael Sonnen

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva promised to deliver in his recent fight with Chael Sonnen. “The Spider” did so, stopping his biggest challenger to date with a second round victory.

UFC president Dana White, while making an appearance on The Jim Rome Show recently, re-told a meeting between himself and Sonnen after the fight this past Saturday in Las Vegas.

This is what Chael Sonnen said to me after the fight. He didn’t say it at the press conference, but he said it to me. He said, ‘I have so much respect for this guy, Dana. I’ve been competing in combat sports since I was seven years old. In that first round, when I was on top of him, hittin’ him with those big elbows, I felt him break. I broke him in that first round. He came back in the second round and destroyed me. I’ve never seen anybody do that, ever.

Sonnen took Silva down just seconds into the first round of action, and kept him there until the whistle blew to end the first five minutes. In the second, Sonnen was caught with several quick strikes by Silva, who eventually finished him on the ground.

Both Silva and Sonnen appear at a stand-still as to where they go from here after competing in one of the biggest matches in UFC history.
