Benson Henderson Among Short List Of Medical Suspensions From UFC 150

UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson has been suspended indefinitely by the Colorado Athletic Commission.

Henderson defeated Frankie Edgar in the main event of UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar II this past weekend.

Despite the suspension, Henderson is already locked into his next match. “Smooth” will defend his title against Nate Diaz in December at UFC on Fox 5. The commission did not reveal the exact reason for Henderson’s suspension, though he showed no signs of issues after the win.

MMAWeekly.com confirmed the medical suspension on Wednesday. The indefinite suspensions can be cleared by a physician.

Benson Henderson Excited To Still Call Himself UFC Lightweight Champion

Benson Henderson did enough in the minds of two judges Saturday night to retain the UFC lightweight title.

Henderson earned a split decision victory over former champion Frankie Edgar in the main event of UFC 150.

While many disagreed with the decision when it was raised, “Smooth” felt energized and ready to for another few rounds.

“I’m pretty happy to get the ‘W’ and get my hand raised,” said Henderson, during the post-fight show on Fuel TV. “I’m not that tired. I did two-and-a-half weeks of my camp in Flagstaff (Arizona) before the fight. I felt I should have pushed the pace a little more in the fight.”

Henderson attacked Edgar’s lead-leg early, causing bruising and redness on his calf. That seemed to hamper the attack of “The Answer” in the first round, but Edgar stormed back.

“Frankie is so good and so tough,” Henderson said.

Time For Frankie Edgar To ‘Move On’

Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is planning on taking his fighting career elsewhere.

Edgar isn’t leaving the UFC, and didn’t make it official that he was heading towards the featherweight division, but from his demeanor following a loss Saturday night to Benson Henderson, it sure seems that way.

“I’m moving on,” said a disheartened Edgar after losing to Henderson at UFC 150. “Dana (White) ain’t gonna give me another title shot, I’ll tell you that much.”

Edgar dropped the belt to Henderson earlier this year, but pushed his way into an immediate rematch. “The Answer” seemed poised to take back the belt, but the split decision went to Henderson, instead.

Mentions of Edgar fighting at featherweight have been ongoing for some time now. He naturally walks around near the lightweight limit of 155 pounds, and has said he would have no trouble moving down.

Donald Cerrone Scores Two UFC 150 Bonuses, Walks Away With An Extra $120,000

Donald Cerrone and Melvin Guillard fought for just over a minute Saturday night at UFC 150, but it was enough to garner Fight of the Night honors.

Guillard floored Cerrone early in the opening round, but “Cowboy” stormed back to finish off his former sparring partner with a thunderous head-kick and right-hand. Each fighter was given $60,000.

Cerrone also earned Knockout of the Night for his performance, while Dennis Bermudez was given the Submission of the Night. Both were worth $60,000.
