Joseph Benavidez Healthy, Ready For Quick Return To Action After Title Loss At UFC 152

Joseph Benavidez felt like he would become the first-ever UFC flyweight champion.

Instead, Benavidez was defeated by Demetrious Johnson at UFC 152 last month. The Team Alpha Male fighter is working to get his mind right now, appearing on a recent program on Fuel TV.

“I’m feeling fine. Physically, I am great. I didn’t suffer any injuries. I still like like I am at the top of the division. I’m just looking forward to fighting again for the fans. A couple of wins and I’ll be back in there for the title.”

Johnson scored a decision victory, and Benavidez made sure to congratulate him, saying, “he fought a great fight.”

Report Says Charles Oliveira Was Injured Minutes Before Facing Cub Swanson

Jacob “Stitch” Duran, the premier cutman in MMA, appears on MMAjunkie.com Radio and said that Charles Oliveira was injured just minutes before facing Cub Swanson this past weekend at UFC 152.

“I do know that in preparation for going out there, warming up, he twisted his knee,” Duran said.

Oliveira lost via first round stoppage to Swanson. His management has not said anything official, but Oliveira’s name did appear on the medical suspension list. No reason was given.

UFC 152 Medical Report Contains Jon Jones

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was one of a handful of fighters given indefinite medical suspensions following UFC 152 this past weekend.

The Ontario Athletic Commission released the news to MMA.tv on Monday.

Jones will need to supply an X-ray of his right arm to have his suspension lifted. Jones, who defeated Vitor Belfort, was caught in a deep armbar early in the fight.

Charlie Brenneman, Simeon Thoresen, Charles Oliveira and Roger Hollett were all handed indefinite medical suspensions, as well. They will need clearance from a doctor to have them lifted.

Evan Dunham was given a 60-day suspension, while Lance Benoist, Igor Pokrajac and Joseph Benavidez were given 30-day suspensions.

The rest of the fight card was handed 14-day “rest” suspensions.

Highlights From Jones And Vitor’s Fight

Fuel TV has highlights of UFC 152′s main event.

Despite Distractions, Jon Jones Found A Way To Win At UFC 152

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones seemed completely focused heading into his fourth title defense vs. Vitor Belfort Saturday night at UFC 152.

However, when Belfort locked in an armbar early in the first, it appeared that maybe – just maybe – all the non-Octagon related issues had caught up with Jones.

“Bones,” though, fought through the submission attempt and controlled Belfort until finishing him in the fourth. Jones has now tied Chuck Liddell for the most successful title defenses of the 205-pound belt.

“I thought my top game was terrible,” said Jones, during an interview with Fuel TV. “Outside of that, I was pretty happy with everything else. I need to work on my boxing in the pocket, and my top game in jiu-jitsu, but other than that, I can’t complain.”

Jones used a front-side-kick to his advantage, keeping Belfort from unloading any heavy punches towards his face. He bloodied Belfort with some vicious elbows in the first round, and continued to assault “The Phenom” when the fight went to the ground.

As for his meeting with Dana White concerning the UFC 151 incident, Jones believes the two are now closer than ever, and hopes it is all in the past.

We got to talk to each other on a level of grown men, not boss or athlete. It was more about two adults talking like adults. I got to express to him how I felt about what he said. He put me in his shoes and where he was at as the president of an organization. Neither one of us was necessarily apologetic, but we came to an agreement and to an understanding. I think we left with mutual respect for each other.

Vitor Belfort Let Jon Jones Off The Hook

Vitor Belfort nearly sent the MMA world into a state of shock Saturday night.

Belfort locked UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in a deep armbar and started cranking on the long, right arm of Jones.

However, before he could get the submission victory, “Bones” had escaped. Jones went on to secure a submission win of his own in the fourth round at UFC 152.

“When I heard his arm pop, I let go a little and that is where he escaped,” said Belfort, during an interview on Fuel TV following the loss. “I made a mistake. He is a great fighter and I lost the opportunity.”

Belfort continued to look for the submission several times during the fight, but was never able to lock it in as tight as he did in the first. “The Phenom” also said in the post-fight interview that Jones kicked him in the rib area, which he injured in training.

Dana White On All Things UFC 152

UFC president Dana White was in a pretty good mood concerning most things Saturday night following UFC 152.

However, a few items on the agenda caused that old angry White to come back. Here are some of the more noteworthy subjects discussed Saturday night:

White on future Jon Jones-Chael Sonnen match (thanks to MMAjunkie.com):

I can tell you right now, I think both want that fight. I think there are other fights that make more sense, (but) people do want to see it. If enough people want to see it, I guess I’d have to make it.

White on booing from fans during Joseph Benavidez-Demetrious Johnson match:

If you didn’t like the flyweight fight, please, I’m begging you, don’t ever buy another UFC pay-per-view again. I don’t want your money. You’re a moron, you don’t like fighting, you don’t appreciate talent.

On Michael Bisping being the next contender to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva:

Bisping always brings it. I don’t know what’s next (for Silva). I know Bisping looked great and always comes to fight. I think a fight with Bisping and Anderson is an interesting fight.

Speaking of Silva, White fired back at a Canadian columnist for his report on the top draws in UFC history:

(Brock Lesnar, as the report stated) was never the No. 1 attraction. Georges St-Pierre has been forever. I’ve said that a million times. Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen makes the list now, Jon Jones and Rashad Evans.

Four Fighters Secure UFC 152 Fight Night Bonuses

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones led the list of bonus winners for UFC 152, as “Bones” scored Submission of the Night honors.

Jones made a fourth successful title defense by stopping Vitor Belfort in the fourth round. Jones survived a nasty armbar attempt by “The Phenom” early, and dominated him over the next three rounds.

Cub Swanson picked up the Knockout of the Night honors with his KO of Charles Oliveira, while TJ Grant and Evan Dunham were the Fight of the Night.

All four fighters picked up an extra $65,000.

The attendance was announced at 16,800 for the Air Canada Centre, with a gate of $1.921 million.
