UFC on FUEL 3 Pre-Fight Interviews: Poirier, Jung, Cerrone, Stephens, MacDonald, Lawlor

UFC on FUEL 3 pre-fight interviews with Dustin Poirier, Chan Sung Jung, Donald Cerrone, Jeremy Stephens, Tom Lawlor and Jason MacDonald.

Being In Main Event Not Putting Any Extra Pressure On Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier will be in his first main event next week when he takes on Chan Sung Jung at UFC on FUEL TV: Korean Zombie vs. Poirier.

The bout could have major implications in the featherweight division, as many see both fighters as possible contenders to the belt.

Poirier (12-1) has won five consecutive bouts since a decision loss to Danny Castillo back in 2010. He has scored back-to-back submissions over Max Holloway and Pablo Garza to secure his status as a threat in the weight class.

“I’m learning on the job and I really want to get better,” said Poirier, in a recent interview on “UFC Tonight.” “With my fight against ‘Korean Zombie,’ if I go out and finish him, maybe after this I’ll be one fight away. But I’m really close.”

Poirier has plenty of respect for Jung, who has two straight fights since a pair of losses in 2010.

“He is a great opponent and has a great chin,” Poirier said. “He’s tough. He’s a fighter’s fighter. He goes out there strong and he doesn’t back down.”

As for the added pressure some fighters feel when they have their name attached to the card, Poirier said, “I don’t know. I don’t feel any added pressure on my end. There’s always pressure to go out there and perform. All eyes will be on us.”

The card takes place May 15 live on FUEL TV from Fairfax, Virginia.

Thiago Silva Replaces Injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Fights Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on FUEL 2

The UFC announced a major change to the UFC on FUEL 2 main event today.

According to UFC.com, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has suffered a knee injury and will not be able to fight Alexander Gustafsson on the card. Sweden doesn’t have to start singing the blues though, because they also announced that Thiago Silva is already set to replace him.

Following a knee injury suffered in training for his April 14th bout against Alexander Gustafsson, Rogerio Nogueira has been forced to withdraw from the UFC on FUEL TV main event in Stockholm, Sweden. Stepping in for Lil’ Nog will be another hard-hitting Brazilian, Thiago Silva, who is returning to the Octagon for the first time since January of 2011.

Silva was previously set to face Igor Pokrajac at UFC on FUEL 3 in Fairfax, Virginia. It’s unclear who will fight Pokrajac now, but at least they managed to save the more pressing card.
