Tom Atencio Talks Affliction ‘Banned’ Ticket Sales And Ultimate Fight Night 14

Affliction Banned vs UFC

The last we heard anything about Affliction’s ticket sales for “Banned” they had sold $250,000 worth within the first 30 minutes of them going on sale. In a conversation with USA Today, Tom Atencio, VP of Affliction Entertainment, is now saying somewhere between 7,000 to 8,000 tickets have been sold.

Atencio might sound like a diehard MMA fan gleeful over his upcoming fantasy matchups, but he’s not alone — 7,000 to 8,000 tickets have been sold so far, he said. If that figure is correct, it would mean that without any major marketing and with the show still a month away, Affliction: Banned is already close to hitting the live numbers of Elite XC’s much-hyped May 31 event, which reported 8,033 paid tickets for a card that had a fraction of the Affliction line-up’s cachet.

Affliction VP Tom Atencio’s Thoughts On The UFC’s July 19 Event

Tom Atencio, Affliction VPMMARated.com caught up with Affliction VP, Tom Atencio, to get his thoughts on the UFC putting together a last minute event to counter their MMA debut, Affliction “Banned.”

It’s just an example of how they want to control everything but at the same time it’s flattering as well. I guess they do view us as threat…absolutely.

Apparently this news hasn’t come as a shock to Atencio, since he claims he’s known about the UFC’s plans for a while. Tom definitely has his work cut out for him now.

Affliction Countering UFC Event A Go; Anderson Silva To Headline At Light Heavyweight (Fight Updates)

Affliction Banned vs UFC

Despite denials from Spike TV and the UFC, the UFC has green lit the last minute July 19 live Spike TV event designed to counter Affliction Entertainment’s MMA debut.

MMAmania.com has learned today that the UFC will indeed go forward with a Spike TV event on July 19 despite some recent reports that claimed it wasn’t going to materialize.

We first passed along the news over the weekend that several fighters had been approached about participating in the event, which is less than five weeks away. It is widely believed that the decision to stage an event on such short notice is to counter the Affliction: “Banned” debut event on pay-per-view (PPV) that same evening.

It also appears that Anderson Silva will be making his highly rumored light heavyweight debut against James Irvin in the night’s main event. The event will be titled “Ultimate Fight Night 14″ and Frankie Edgar vs Hermes Franca will be moved to the card from UFC 87.
