No signatures on the dotted line yet

Vadim Finkelstein says Fedor/Sylvia Fight Not Signed | Yesterday, Fedor confirmed to that he would be fighting Tim Sylvia on July 19. While the fight is apparently in the works, it looks like the match has yet to be signed according to his manager, Vadim Finkelstein. Finkelstein commented on the situation last night via

“At the moment we can’t certainly say the bout will take place come July because the contract is not signed. However, the both parties are involved in the negotiation process and we are about to break the finishing tape although we haven’t come to an agreement concerning every detail as of yet”

This news doesn’t come as a surprise after Monte Cox of M1-Global (now Adrenaline MMA) recently announced Fedor was never signed to a contract with them. Despite a major press conference and a $1.5 million signing bonus given to Emelianenko, only a letter of intent was signed and the two sides were never able to reach an agreement as originally announced.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed the Sylvia fight doesn’t end up the same way. I’m not sure the mixed martial arts community can stand Fedor fighting another can.

Couture weighs in on Fedor/Sylvia

Randy Couture weighs in on the potential fight between Tim Sylvia and Fedor EmelianenkoRandy is a classy guy. He’s not the type that shows you how he feels. Perhaps Tim so easily leaving the UFC and getting first crack at the Russian doesn’t bother him. Or maybe it does. If so, we’ll never know it. Regardless of how he truly feels, he had this to say during an interview with Percy Crawford of

I think it’s going to be an interesting fight. Fedor just fought a pretty tall opponent in Hong Man Choi, so obviously he’s been in that mode of dealing with a guy that size, but I think Tim is a little more seasoned fighter than Hong Man has proved to be. But Hong Man wasn’t easy so it will be interesting to see how Emelianenko deals with him and a pretty good indicator for me, having just fought Tim this last year, as to where I stand and how things might go if I finally get the chance to fight Fedor.

Here’s to hoping Tim doesn’t spoil the party!
