Randy Couture Willing to Fight Fedor Emelianenko TwiceRandy Couture interviews have been popping up everywhere lately. In a recent one conducted by Gary Herman of 15Rounds.com, Randy talked about his upcoming role in the movie Redbelt, Kurt Angle, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and, of course, Fedor Emelianenko.

When asked if he would be interested in fighting anyone besides Fedor, Randy responded:

That’s really the fight for me at this stage. I’m 44 and looking at the end of my career. I want to fight the best guy in the world and be considered the best guy as well. That fight is the only way that will happen. It doesn’t make sense – the UFC is criticizing me for not fighting (Antonio Rodrigo) Nogueira, and I have a lot of respect for Nogueira. I think he’s a great fighter, but he’s been beat by Fedor twice. That fight doesn’t make sense for me right now. If I have more fights left in me after Fedor, maybe I’ll fight Nogueira then, but right now, it just doesn’t make sense.

Basically, we won’t be seeing Randy and Big Nog in a ring together anytime soon, and it’s highly improbable we will ever see it happen in the UFC, if ever.

Couture has made his living beating people up inside the cage. Conversely, Fedor has made his in the ring. Many feel Randy would have the advantage if the fight happens inside the cage, while Fedor would have the upper hand in the ring. So, which one do they fight in? Randy has the solution:

That doesn’t really matter to me as long as it happens. I don’t care where. I talked to his people at the commercial we recently did. I even agreed to fight him twice. We can fight once in a cage here in the States, and we can fight in Japan where he’s very popular in a ring. I don’t care – as long as we get the fights.

The truth of the matter is, unless Fedor wins in the cage or Randy wins in the ring, fans will debate for years to come that Randy/Fedor would have won if it was in a cage/ring, respectively. I certainly don’t have a problem watching them fight twice. Most likely the ring and/or cage would significantly influence the way the fight goes, so it sounds like the perfect solution to me. Just as long as it doesn’t happen in the YAMMA.
