Fedor Emelianenko has confirmed on his official website that the potential bout against Tim Sylvia has been signed. Earlier this month Fedor confirmed to Sherdog that the rumored bout would take place. Shortly thereafter, Fedor’s manager revealed they were in talks to fight Sylvia, but nothing had been signed at that point. It appears the details have been worked out and the deal is done. MMAWeekly.com was able to confirm with their sources that this is indeed the case.
Despite being the number one heavyweight in the world, Fedor has been openly criticized by fans and the media for not facing top competition since 2005 when he defeated Mirko Cro Cop. On July 19, his critics will be silenced.

In addition to the Sylvia fight, Fedor claims he is signed to fight in October and December of this year. While no opponents have been confirmed at this point, Randy Couture has loosely thrown around October as the possible month of his and Fedor’s highly anticipated fight. That is still a big question mark at this time, however. Randy would have to win his legal battle with Zuffa, releasing him of his contract, before that match could take place. A rematch with Cro Cop would be the obvious choice for a New Year’s Eve fight, but Fedor hasn’t seemed too interested unless Cro Cop gets back on the winning track.
Three months from today, we’ll find out if Fedor’s still got it.
