Emelianenko vs Buentello

Aleksander EmelianenkoAffliction officially announced the rumored match between Aleksander Emelianenko and Paul Buentello for ‘Banned’ today, according to Sherdog.com. Emelianenko is the younger brother of Fedor Emelianenko, who will headline the event with Tim Sylvia.

Although not quite as accomplished or talented as Fedor, Aleks is still a very dangerous heavyweight, who typically resides just outside of most outlet’s top ten heavyweight rankings. Like Buentello, he has no problem standing and trading.

Paul BuentelloBuentello is a UFC veteran who gets his wins by knockout more often than not. Their styles will likely make for an exciting slugfest.

The fight is rumored to appear on TV if Affliction is able to secure a deal with a network to air the prelims prior to the pay-per-view.

[Update 5/21/2008 12:49AM ET]MMAWeekly is reporting Affliction has secured a deal with Fox Sports Net (FSN). FSN will air the hour-long undercard live including the Aleks/Buentello fight. More tomorrow.

Still no word on Arlovski.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Signing

Antonio Rogerio NogueiraAntonio Rogerio Nogueira, twin brother of UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, has signed with Affliction. Like his brother, Rogerio is a veteran of PRIDE Fighting Championships, although he competes at light heavyweight.

While not as highly regarded as his brother, Rogerio is still a tremendous fighter with a 13-3 record. He holds two wins over Alistair Overeem and Kazuhiro Nakumura, and single wins over Dan Henderson and Kazushi Sakuraba. Rogerio was last under contract to the now defunct Hardcore Fighting Championships. Nogueira will most likely make his Affliction debut at the organization’s second event.

[Update 5/21/2008 12:49AM ET]MMAWeekly is reporting that Rogerio Nogueira is competing on the July 19 ‘Banned’ card, although no opponent was named.

More excellent news from Affliction. If they are going to go down, they are going to go down in flames.
