Oh my! It happened again. UFC 85 undergoes its 2 millionth change. UFC.com is reporting that James Irvin has suffered a broken foot, which has forced him out of the UFC 85 bout with Rashad Evans. Earlier reports suggested Luiz Cane would step in to replace Irvin, but it appears the bout is going to be scrapped altogether.
After more twists and turns than a Hollywood thriller, June 7th’s UFC 85: Bedlam show has finally been set with 11 fights. Included is a move of the intriguing middleweight clash between Nate Marquardt and Thales Leites to the pay-per-view portion of the card, and a scrapping of the Rashad Evans vs James Irvin bout due to a broken foot suffered by Irvin.
Evans, who was originally scheduled to take on Chuck Liddell on the card before ‘The Iceman’ tore a hamstring in his right leg, will not be fighting on June 7th.
You have to feel bad for Rashad. Originally, he’s not even supposed to be on the card. Then he gets the call to face a UFC icon in the main event, which I’m sure was an emotional high for him. Then the air in his balloon deflates a little when Chuck withdraws with his torn hammy, and is bumped down the card. Now, he’s completely off the card again. Talk about an emotional roller-coaster. Hopefully, the UFC can squeeze him on UFC 86, or book him for UFC 87, so he at least can put all his hard training to use this summer.
UFC 85 truly is ‘Bedlam.’
