Only days after the Diaz/Noons altercation took place at the end of EliteXC’s “Return of the King,” rumors started flowing that a Nick Diaz and KJ Noons rematch would happen sooner rather than later, most likely on ‘Unfinished Business,’ which is scheduled as EliteXC’s second show on CBS. Those rumors started looking more and more credible as it was announced that Diaz had been pulled from his DREAM.5 bout against Hayato ‘Mach’ Sakurai on July 21, and that the likely location for ‘Unfinished Business’ would be in Stockton, California—Diaz’s hometown.
It’s still likely that Diaz will compete on the July 26 card, but according to MMAMania.com, his opponent will not be KJ Noons.
MMAmania.com has just learned that Nick Diaz will not fight Elite XC Lightweight Champion KJ Noons on the next CBS show entitled “Unfinished Business,” which is slated for July 26.
The match up appeared to be all but guaranteed — Noons and Diaz were involved in a post-fight tussle at the “Return of the King” show earlier this month after Noons defended his 160-pound title against Yves Edwards. Diaz was invited in to the ring to discuss a rematch with Noons and the entire situation descended into chaos rather quickly.
I have to say I’m a little disappointed. As much as the WWE-esque scuffle that took place between the Noons family and the Diaz brothers should have never happened, it did its job. The match is inevitable at this point, its just a matter of where and when. Perhaps, EliteXC is using this event to introduce Diaz on the national stage and put the rematch on the third CBS card in October.
