Roy NelsonEver since rumors surfaced that Zuffa would be purchasing the IFL, we’ve seen quite a few IFL fighters sign with the UFC and WEC. What we haven’t seen is any of the IFL’s champions sign to fight in the Octagon. Well, either Zuffa didn’t want them, or they were too hard to nail down, because two of them look like they’re headed to Affliction. According to two separate reports, it’s believed that IFL Heavyweight Champ Roy Nelson and IFL Light Heavyweight Champ Vladimir Matyushenko will be climbing in Affliction’s ring on October 11.

Nelson is reportedly facing Jay White at Affliction II “Day of Reckoning.”

…another Heavyweight match up is slated for the card that will see IFL Heavyweight Champion Roy Nelson (13-2-0) bring his four fight win streak to the Affliction ring against up and comer Jay White (2-5-0).

White confirmed the fight with’s Michael Moody during the International MMA Expo that was held in Long Beach, CA this past weekend.

“I just signed a three fight deal with Affliction” stated White to “The opponent they gave me was Roy Nelson”

I’m not sure how much of an “up and comer” Jay White is. He did get knocked out by Jake O’Brien in 14 seconds. Perhaps, this is an example of taking lesser pay in exchange for an easier opponent.

Vladimir MatyushenkoMatyushenko, on the other hand, will likely be facing a very credible opponent—Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

International Fight League light heavyweight champion Vladimir Matyushenko (Pictures) will likely meet Pride Fighting Championships veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (Pictures) at Affliction “Day of Reckoning” on Oct. 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Sources close to the promotion confirmed the fight has been offered to both parties, though Matyushenko’s management declined to comment on the proposed matchup.

Assuming this fight happens, it will be a rematch. Matyushenko defeated Noguiera by unanimous decision back in 2002. Considering the UFC essentially owns the top ten of world’s light heavyweights, this is definitely one of the best 205lbs match-ups Affliction would be able to put together.

[EDIT 8/5/08 9:46AM ET] – It slipped my mind that IFL Middleweight Champ Dan Miller signed with the UFC, so there has been one IFL champ signed by Zuffa thus far. For the record, Ryan Schultz is fighting in Japan in Sengoku’s LW GP, and its still unknown where Wagney Fabiano and Jay Hieron will end up.
