For those of you who are dreading seeing Fedor fight in another “freak show” this New Year’s Eve, I have hopeful news for you. Tom Atencio revealed to today that Affliction has extended Fedor’s contract, and they are “working with him” on skipping his traditional NYE fight in Japan to fight for them in January or February.

“We’ve just extended our deal with Fedor and we are very happy about that. We absolutely want to put that fight on our third show.” Atencio stated of the title fight “We are looking at the Arlovski/Barnett elimination fight right now with the winner fighting Fedor for sure in January or February.”

A fight in early 2009 could be a very quick turn around time if the Russian plans on fighting on New Year’s Eve, but according to Atencio, a December 31st fight in Japan is not set in stone.

“Nothing is finalized for Fedor on New Year’s yet and we will be looking to work with him on that. Our deal with Fedor is completely solidified and we are very excitement about this.”

Notice I did use the word “hopeful” though. Fedor’s management has a reputation of being quite stubborn when it comes to Fedor being allowed to do what they want him to do. It seems like a long shot that they would agree to skipping NYE, but maybe they finally realize Fedor fighting freak shows in Japan isn’t the best thing for his career. Either that or Affliction is going to throw them a bunch of extra money.

Cross your fingers.

Mike Skinner & Affliction qualify for NASCAR race

Affliction RacecarIn other Affliction news, Mike Skinner posted the 35th fastest qualifying time earlier this evening, meaning the Affliction 00 Toyota car will run in Sunday’s Pepsi 500 in Fontana, California. There is something I would like to note though. I did watch the qualifying live, and when Skinner was running his laps, I had a very hard time making anything out on the car other than the big “Affliction” logo, and it was the only car on the track. I do not have a big screen HDTV though, so perhaps owners of such TV’s could actually see the “Day of Reckoning” advertisement. I have a feeling though, if it does get any significant air time, most people are going to associate it with Affliction clothing. Of course, that would be pretty good for them too.

By the way, the Affliction “Day Of Reckoning” website is live.
