While EliteXC and Kimbo Slice won’t have a live UFC event to compete with for television ratings, they may have a live college football game to compete with for ticket sales. That’s right, the Miami Hurricanes do have a home game the same day, and it’s not just any home game, it’s one of the biggest games of their season. They will be playing the Florida State Seminoles.

I know a lot of you hardcore fight fans aren’t into football, but as an avid college football fan who happens to be from Florida, I can say this one always gets Florida sports fans’ undivided attention. I know Miami loves Kimbo Slice, but if I was putting money on it, I would say they’re probably more loyal to the Canes, especially since they will playing an in-state and conference rival. The time of the game hasn’t been set yet, so it could end up being an early day game, but even then, how many fans will actually make it to both?

Maybe there are enough Miami fight fans who could care less about college football to fill the Bank Atlantic Center, but it does seem like EliteXC could have played it a little smarter and picked a better date to hold the most critical event in their two year history. I know the ratings mean more than the live gate at this point, but they need to have that place full and rockin’.

Dana White makes his first public comments on the Kimbo Slice/Ken Shamrock fight, plus a video of Shamrock talking about Kimbo after the jump.

It was only a matter of time before someone asked Dana White what he thought about the Kimbo/Shamrock fight. Fighters Only Magazine beat everyone to the punch, and as you would expect, Dana doesn’t hesitate to give his opinion.

Describing the match as “another fucking joke from Gary Shaw” he said that the EliteXC promoter is “obviously” protecting Kimbo – something he has accused White of doing with certain UFC fighters.

“Obviously he’s in favor of protecting guys since Kimbo doesn’t seem to be fighting a good fighter anytime soon,” said White.

“Ken Shamrock? When is Kimbo going to fight a guy who was relevant past 1998?” he laughed.

Guess Dana didn’t hear that Gary Shaw is just a “consultant” now. Funny enough, the irrelevant Ken Shamrock fought five headlining fights in the UFC since White and the Fertittas took over the company in 2001.

Enough picking on White though, because he did give Kevin Iole my new favorite quote.

“I thought EliteXC was the (stuff) Anna Nicole Smith was taking when she died.”

That’s so wrong, yet so funny all the same.

To close it out, here’s a video of Ken talking about a fight with Kimbo back when the IFL was still around. Wow, that seems like ages ago.
