It’s official…finally! Wanderlei Silva and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson will meet for a third time on Dec. 27 at UFC 92. Also confirmed for the card are Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir for the UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship.
As recently as Monday, UFC president Dana White said there were “lots of moving parts” as he tried to complete the company’s end-of-year fight cards.
On Wednesday, he at least got the top three fights of UFC 92 finalized. The co-main events will feature the interim heavyweight title match between champion Antonio Rodrigo and Frank Mir. Forrest Griffin will defend the light heavyweight title against Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will meet Wanderlei Silva, who defeated him twice when they fought in PRIDE.
I don’t know about you, but I’m glad that’s finally over. Silva vs. Jackson III had been rumored for UFC 91, 92, and 94, and the rumors literally seemed to bounce back and forth between events on a daily basis. Apparently, the deciding factor was that Dana wanted to have a “stacked” card for New Year’s Eve. I’m not sold that was the case though. From previous reports, it seemed like money was a factor and Silva’s been saying he wanted to fight on the NYE card since his last fight in May. Whatever it was, I’m glad they got it all straightened out.
Just one question. Can you have tri-main events?
