The topic of Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar is a hot one these days. The fight is less than two weeks away and everyone has an opinion on which way they think it’s going to go. Can Randy’s experience triumph over Lesnar’s freakish size, strength, and quickness? That’s the question everyone is asking, but I say the fight isn’t going to be decided by any of those factors. Unless Randy’s clock has finally stopped ticking at age 45, I believe it’s going to come down to the most underrated aspect of mixed martial arts—intelligence and game planning. When it comes to MMA, with the exception of Fedor, there isn’t a fighter smarter inside the cage, who can develop and execute a game plan like Randy Couture can. If Brock had years of experience, a significant number of fights under his belt, and his skills were much further developed, then I’m not sure even the best game plan Randy could come up with would be enough, but that isn’t the case. While Lesnar may have smashed Herring for three rounds, it was still apparent that Lesnar has a lot to learn.

Randy will find a way to win this fight. I have no doubt about that.
